Ralph was the second child born to John
and Grace and was baptised at St Peter's Church, Hope on
27th September,1767.
He married Hannah in 1790 and for a short time they lived in Shaw, a small
town in Lancashire, but by 1791
they had returned to Hope where they remained until at least 1808.
Unlike his father and grandfather, Ralph did not choose farming as an
occupation but instead he became a tailor.
It was perhaps this line of work which brought about their decision to
migrate to Stalybridge in Cheshire where
they remained for the rest of their lives.
