John was born at Hope to
Radulphus and Maria in about 1739 and he was twin to Jonathan.
John married Grace Darwent ( see link
to Darwent ) on the 13th May, 1764 at
St Peter's Church, Hope.

Little is known about the everyday lives of
John and Grace other than, like his father, John was a farmer.
He seems to have been the most favoured son of his parents, he is named as
joint executor in his father's Will and after
small legacies had been paid to his siblings, with his mother was to become
joint beneficiary of the remainder of the estate.
If he succeeded his mother, John was to become sole inheritor of his
parents' estate.
John and Grace had a total of seven children and at least four of these
lived into adulthood.
