The Strother Family Coat of Arms
This is the crest of the Strothers of Norham which has been handed down through the generations

The name Strother has its early roots in Northumberland.
They are believed to have been anciently seated as Lords of the Manor, probably even before the Norman Conquest in 1066 AD.

My earliest known Strother ancestor is Lancelot who was born around 1620-1645 and believed to have died 20 November 1682. Nothing is known of either his parentage or his marriage.
Lancelot is thought to have had at least four siblings - George, John, William and Rees.
He lived in Norham, Northumberland.

Norham 1902

He was known as " Lancelot of Felkington ", Felkington being a crossroads where a few farm cottages stood and which lay
about six miles south of Norham.

St Cuthberts' Church, Norham

Lancelot had three known children:

1. William
( my direct ancestor) baptised 3 November 1665 at Norham. After an apprenticeship of seven years to
Anthony Rutherford, on 19 April 1689 he became a freeman of Berwick upon Tweed.

He married Elenor Hague at Norham on 27 April 1694 and they had seven children

1. John
( my direct ancestor ) baptised at Norham on 22 November 1694.
