Alas...

“Keshi…look out!” Keshi
covered Lal with his body to protect him from Vritra’s attack
receiving a shot that hurt him deeply. Both fell down after the
strike with Keshi landing unconscious on top of his beloved. “Keshi!
Keshi say something! KESHI!!” Lal couldn’t move with Keshi’s fainted
body on top of him but he squeezed him tightly when he saw Vritra
lift his hand, holding Ahriman’s amulet to steal his soul. “NOOO!!!
HELP!!!”
A small woman appeared with
young Dasa behind Vritra hitting his head with a piece of wood.
“Leave them alone!”
“Ah!” Vritra turned around
finding the young princess holding the piece of wood that hit his
head moments ago. “So it’s Princess Chitra herself! I should’ve
gotten rid of you and your father when I had the chance…but now I
won’t be stopped!” Chitra opened her eyes frightened when she saw
Vritra holding the talisman before her. “Now die Princess of Alas!
That goes for you too Dasa…traitor!” Lal used his magic to steal the
talisman, even in his weak state, using the branches of a near by
tree. Vitra had his hand extended to the front when the branch moved
and knock him down dropping the amulet. “What?!” Vritra turned
around and saw Lal trapping the talisman inside a flower. “Give it
back!”
“I won’t!”
“You are in no position to
fight me, you can’t even move from where you are! But I can help
you…” Vritra used his magic to lift Keshi’s body and throw him
against a tree.
“KESHI!!” Lal screamed worried
for his love.
“Keshi! Leave him alone!” Dasa
and Chitra ran beside Keshi and tried to wake him up.
“I would, but you are making
me angry...give me the amulet!” Lal was weak and, most of all,
afraid for Keshi’s life. Knowing he couldn’t use his magic much
more, he innocently tried to have an agreement with the warlock.
“Promise not to hurt Keshi!
Promise!”
“Ok.” So he gave Vritra the
talisman believing on his word. “Good boy…now where was I? Oh yeah!
Taking all your lives!!”
“You promised!! Liar!!”
“Fool!” Vritra laughed,
lifting his hand- then thunder was heard and a shining golden light
surrounded Keshi’s body. “What’s going on?”
“Keshi!” Lal was surprised to
see him floating and surrounded by an unknown golden light. “What’s
going on?”
“Is the power of the alas!”
The princess exclaimed happily, knowing there was nothing left to
do, there was no way Vritra could win now.
“The power of the alas?” Both
Lal and Vritra asked confused while Dasa only starred, astonished.
“Yes…the legend from old
countries says that when the last alas of a kingdom faces death he
could either receive death and let the hunter have his magical horn
or transform his horn into light and gave his magic to the one he
chose. He chose Keshi.”
“Impossible! That’s a lie!
There’s not such legend!” Vritra couldn’t accept his failure and
still wanted to fight.
“Yes there is…you never read
the books of legends inside the castle? The story is told
there…where do you think our country gained the name? Alas comes
from the beast’s name, just like many other countries were name
similarly- because of the same reason. When this Kingdom first
arose, this place was filed with many alas creatures, but when the
humans discovered the power of their horn, they started to hunt them
till the very last…now we are facing the change of this last
creature because of the sick desire of power. In other places the
alas was called differently, but it was the same beast, each region
of the country had an alas family…now there is no other left”
“What’s going to happen to
Keshi?” Lal asked worried unknowing Keshi’s future.
“I don’t know.” The princess
accepted she had no clue what comes next.
The golden light surrounding
Keshi intensified and he was now floating in the air with his eyes
open. “Vritra…give me the talisman if you don’t want to die. You
must free the souls trapped inside the amulet, let the souls
free…let them free.” Keshi spoke but the voice was different, it
wasn’t his but Kalkin’s voice. Keshi didn’t move his lips but
everyone heard the voice amazed by the power of the alas. “Give it
to me and you’ll live.”
“Never! Give me the alicorn!”
“There is no way I can do that
now, my power is within Keshi’s body, if you wish for it he must
grant it to you, but that wouldn’t happen. I trust his heart and I
know he won’t betray me. Give me
the amulet and let me free the unfortunate souls trapped inside.”
“NO! I won’t give it to you!
You are lying! You are trying to fool me, but you won’t! This is
another of your illusions!! You are a demon! A real demon!” He tried
to kill Keshi with the amulet one last time but it was useless, the
rock color faded like it was ice cold. “What’s going on? I’ll kill
you, Keshi!!! I’ll kill you all!” Vitra started to say a spell out
loud repeating again and again the same phrase. “Now you will burn
in hell!!!”
“NO!” Lal ran to push the
warlock away to save Keshi from burning, absorbing the black magic
inside the amulet his love gave him. “Huh?” He was surprised and
smiled to know it worked. “Super!”
“Stupid child!” He slapped him
angry of the many failures he had against them. “I won’t lose to
only a bunch of kids!”
“If you don’t give up, then
you must die.” A light of the same color as the one surrounding
Keshi hit Vritra taking his life away in less than a second. His
body fell to the floor lifeless and the amulet floated in the air
breaking in million pieces before their eyes. “You are all free
now.” After the amulet was broken a strong energy was felt, it was
the souls of the people killed by it leaving at last to the place
they must go to.
One of the souls changed the
way and flied around each of them, somehow thanking them for the
freedom. At the end of it’s routine, the owner of the soul become
clearer and stood before Keshi. “Thank you brother…you saved our
souls and now we are free. Forgive me for leaving you…now I will be
able to watch over you from heaven.”
“Brother!” Keshi reacted at
the scene letting his tears fall down. “I missed you!”
“I did too…find your way
home…find your way.”
Kafele slowly faded away,
Keshi feeling some kind of freedom in his heart. The nightmare was
over and now he was free to live a happy life. The light surrounding
Keshi ended and he was now on the ground again. “Lal!” He ran to the
side of his dear one and kissed him happily. “You are ok?”
“Yes I am. You saved us.”
“No I didn’t. Kalkin did.”
“Where is he now?”
“He is inside me, I can feel
his power flowing within me.”
“But what happened to his
body?”
“I don’t know. Let’s go home
Lal, I have to heal your wounds.”
“My skin is burned and I have
two broken wings my love…would you take care of me?”
“Of course, baby, I will be
with you every moment.” Keshi kissed his dear haada lovingly and
then looked at the princess. “Thanks for your help, now I hope you
can make a beautiful place out of this land again, where no creature
must fear anyone.” He then looked to Dasa and the boy lowered
his head feeling ashamed. “I don’t applaud what you did, but I can
understand…I hope you live a good life from now on.” He waved to the
princess and flied away with Lal on his arms.
“You’re flying Keshi!”
“Its Kalkin’s power my love,
it is only his power.” Many weeks passed before Lal was completely
cured and Keshi was besides him the whole time, holding him, feeding
him and loving him all he needed. “My love, what’s going to happen
now? You will live a lot more than I. Humans live for lesser years
than any fairy.
“I don’t know…I’ll love you
always even after you die. I’ll love you even if you are old baby, I
promise.”
“But after I die…you’ll be
lonely again.”
“Don’t worry…I’ll have you in
my heart.”
'Keshi…you can have what you
want, just use my power to have what you want. That is my power; you
can have whatever you desire.'
“Whatever I desire?”
'Yes. Just say it and I’ll
grant it.'
“I want…I want to be a haada
so I can live forever with Lal.”
'If that is your wish…then I
will grant it.'
The same golden light from
before surrounded him once again, transforming Keshi’s body into a
beautiful haada. “Lal! I...I got wings like yours!”
“Keshi…are you sure you want
this?”
“Yes I do. I want a long happy
life with my beloved Lal.” So the alas true power was to give one
wish, any wish to the one who possessed the golden alicorn. Now
Keshi and Lal were free to live together anyplace they chose, in
Keshi’s old house or outside in the forest, anyplace as long as they
were together. “No one will tear us apart now…only death my love,
only death. I’ll take care of you for the rest of my days.”
“I will too Keshi. I will
too.” They kissed and went outside to have their first flight around
the forest finding a white horse waiting for them with his wings
wide opened, looking glorious and completely gorgeous.
'I came to say goodbye.'
“Kalkin?”
'Thank you for taking care of
me, now you must take care of your dear Lal. You won’t be alone
again. Remember to listen to your heart…be happy…I’ll be watching
you both from the heavens.' Kalkin flew straight towards the sky,
vanishing between the white clouds not long after he ascend to the
heavens.
“Goodbye old buddy…I surely
will miss you.” Keshi’s tears rolled down as he saw his beloved
friend disappeared into the sky, he was happy to see him free and
most of all alive.
“He didn’t have the horn…why?”
“He gave it to me, to make my
dream come true. His horn was transformed into magic…the most
powerful magic that ever existed…that’s why he was hunted, but now
he is free to live a happy life in heaven.”
“That’s wonderful…and we…we’ll
be together forever!”
“Together forever, Lal.
Together forever.” He gave Lal his hand and both flew away smiling,
happily knowing from that day forward, their hearts will share a
lifetime together.
