1st EPSF Symposium
New positions in EPSF This month two of our heads got positions in the EPSF (Egyptian Students' Pharmaceutical Federation). Those two are: Osama Younis(our vice president) and he got the publication position in EPSF. Ahmed Hussein(our vice president of international affairs) and he got the 3 positions in the EPSF: Treasurer, Contact Person of EPSF with the African Federation, & the head of SEO committee of EPSF with the African Federation. News of IPSF IPSF Sign Joint Statement on Smoke Free Pharmacy Schools In early June, IPSF signed a Joint Statement with WHO on Smoke-Free Pharmacy Schools. The document was launched as part of this year's World No Tobacco Day Celebrations and hopes to encourage pharmacy students to take action and help ''Clear the Air' if their pharmacy school is not already smoke-free in all indoor areas. A copy of the statement can be downloaded from the Members Only Section of the Webpage or is available on request from the IPSF Secretariat. IPSF 2002 Regional Events Announced The Pharmaceutical Student's Association of the Republic of China (PSAROC), Taiwan have recently been appointed hosts of the 2nd Asia Pacific Symposium. An organizing committee has been formed, chaired by Shih-Yin Chen. The event will be a follow-on from the first symposium which is being hosted by Singapore in late May. In the America's, the Nova Southeastern University in Florida, USA has been appointed hosts of the 1st Pan-American regional meeting. A Reception Committee made up of students from across the region is currently being formed and will be chaired by Conchetta Lesser from the University of Arizona. It is hoped to hold the event in early June 2002. Neema Project Launched On the 2nd May, the first four participants in the Neema Project, traveled to Tanzania for 3 months to live and work at the project site. After 2 weeks of training in Tanzania's capital city, Dar-Es-Salaam, the participants will start work in the village, helping to run the neema dispensary and carrying out health promotion and health education campaigns in the area. The World List of Pharmacy Schools IPSF is once again working with FIP to maintain and publish the Official World List of Pharmacy Schools which aims to be a global directory of pharmacy education. The List has undergone a major update, both in terms of content and presentation. Further improvements are currently being undertaken and the WLPS will soon be available as a searchable database, as well as in normal HTML format. Egypt 2001 Site Visit Lindsay and Germano (IPSF President and Secretary General) recently returned from a very successful visit to the site of the 47th IPSF Congress in Cairo, Egypt. The Congress planning is going very well with participants being encouraged to get their applications forms to the Reception Committee as soon as possible to guarantee a place.
