Warm-Up
Routines
It is the most important thing
you can do whenever you start to practice or
perform....warm
up! Many young players do
not understand what purpose a warm-up serves. Basically, it allows
all components of playing the saxophone to be engaged. Breathing,
dynamic control, embouchure, tonguing, technique, vibrato and
especially tone control are all addressed in a warm-up
exercise.
Always Think
About:
- Producing the best
tone quality that you can
- Playing with a relaxed
embouchure "Ooo" formation
- Intonation, paying
attention to the "trouble notes" and correcting before they
go out of tune
- Total control of the
dynamic range from pppp - ffff, especially the soft
end
- Vibrato: width and
speed control at will
- Breathing correctly
using diaphramatic support...MOST
IMPORTANT STEP!!
- Even, exact, relaxed
technique with a metronome
- Using the correct
articulation for the exercise.
- Playing with a good
FOCUSED
sound/ airstream
Remebering these points
will make your warm-up routine highly focused and
productive.
