Information on Various Diets

I've already outlined what I feel is the best approach to getting off that extra weight for good. If you haven't read it, click here. But I realize that there's "different strokes for different folks", so I've included a page linking to information about the various diets that exist out there. I've included a few notes where necessary.

  • Atkins Diet
A low-carb, high-protein diet. A lot of people report positive results. Not for vegetarians.

  • Blood Type Diet
The idea is that by following a specific diet based on your blood type will improve digestion and cause weight loss.
  • Body For Life Plan

  • Uses healthy eating and weight training.
  • Cabbage Soup Diet
Dieters are allowed all the water and cabbage soup they want, plus a very restricted set of other foods. This is not a very nutritionally sound plan and certainly not one to live on.

  • Carbohydrate Addict's Diet (CAD)

  • The basis of the Heller's Carb Addict Diet is that some of us have an addiction to carbohydrates and by controlling them we can ultimately control our weight.
  • Conquer Your Cravings Plan

  • Permits you three meals and three snacks every day. Each of the basic menus provides between 1500 and 1700 calories.
  • Drop Ten Pounds Fast Plan

  • Pay attention to the amounts of food you eat, eliminating unnecessary sugar and fat from your foods.
  • Fat Flush Diet Plan

  • Claims to help you drop two sizes in two weeks, and cleanse your liver, flush your lymph system, and supports your heart.
  • God's Diet Plan

  • Eat the way our ancestors did. "If God didn't make it - don't eat it".
  • Pritiken Diet

  • Combines low-fat eating with structured exercise.
  • Scarsdale Diet

  • It is a seven to fourteen day diet plan that uses artificial sweeteners and herbal appetite suppressants. There is a strict diet program to follow which allows fruits, vegetables and lean animal fats and no snacking.
  • Suzanne Somers - Somersize

  • The diet is a low carbohydrate high protein diet that has a calorie intake of 1100-1300 calories per day. The Somersizing diet is a mixture of several ideas as it is part food combining and part Atkins style low carb diet. It eliminates several foods including sugar and white flour and recommends eating lots of fruits and vegetables. Fruits should be eaten alone while vegetables should be eaten with fats and proteins.
  • South Beach Diet

  • Uses "good" carbs vs. "bad" carbs and "good" fats vs. "bad" fats.
  • The Zone Diet
This is a low carbohydrate that claims to balance protein, carbohydrates and fats in a 40%-30%-30% ratio. It is meant to optimise the body's metabolic function by regulating blood sugar levels.

There are many, many more diets out there. I've covered just a few. Just remember, before you start a certain diet, use common sense and do your research. Make sure you choose a HEALTHY plan. Don't harm your body in your quest to lose weight. It's not worth it, and it's certainly not necessary. Stay away from those fad diets. The weight that does come off with those never stays off.You don't want to gain it all back - how frustrating!
