1/10/02: Thursday
Here's a letter from our president, Abby Ross:
"Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome back to the Spring 2002 semester. First of all, if you have graduated, congratulations, and please let me know ASAP so I can take you off the email list, unless you would like to continue joining us. I just want to mention a few points to let everyone know what's going on:
1. Engineering Week- January 30 and 31st, 2002 This is in about 3 weeks. I plan on scheduling a meeting before then, either next week or the one after, to talk about this is further detail. Plan on it being a Thursday about 11am, but like last semester, I would appreciate suggestions and I'll determine what the majority requests. We would meet in the Akhurst Room, Builing 36 (Old Engineering Building) Stay tuned for updates!!
2. During E-Week, we are looking for volunteers to help out in general, as we will have a lot of guests. If you don't know already, several events are going on.. High School Design Contest, College Design Competition, Panel Discussion (inlcudes professionals in the local community), Brain Bowl, Industry Showcase in Breezeway, and a Picnic including an Italian buffet. Volunteers for Wed. Jan 29 to watch the SWE board and hold it down from any wind during 10am to 2pm would be great! These events are all free, but in order to eat at the picnic, you need to either attend the meeting or send me an email letting me know, because each engineering club needs a headcount.
3. We have received $900 from IBM over the break, in addition to the other approximately $900 we have through Student Government. Since we have a decent budget, we are considering a conference in February. As officers, we are working on finding out more details, and will provide you with as much as we can as we learn it ourselves. Again, a headcount of people who are interested would be appreciated. Sorry, at the moment I don't know specific dates, but sometime in mid Feb.
That's the main stuff, but like I said, a meeting with pizza would be nice to reiterate all these ideas in addition to giving you more details. I hope to see you all shortly, and stay posted with the dates of the meeting!! I hope everyone had a great break, and in the meantime, take care.
Sincerely, Abby Ross FAU SWE President"

That covers it really well. I will keep you all posted :)

1/21/02: Monday
More from our pres:
"Hey everybody,
I hope the semester is going well for everyone. I just wanted to announce the first SWE meeting of the spring semester to be this Thursday, January 24, 2002, as we had mentioned, at about 11am in the SE building. The room is still tentative but probably the same one we had the very first meeting of fall in, I believe the 3rd or 4th floor right off the elevator. Pizza and soda will be provided. Just to let you all know, the room is SE 463, right off the elevator! Thursday, Jan. 24, at roughly 11:15 am ....pizza and soda!!"
See you there, hopefully!!

1/23/02: Wednesday
Here's a message from Abby and Samantha Burns:
"Hello, FAU's Student Engineering Council is hosting a Teddy Bear Drive to benefit Hearts and Hope, a grief center for children. To learn more about their organization, please visit their website hearts and hope .
Please bring a NEW Teddy Bear to Engineering Week Activities on Jan. 30th and 31st. Or, drop off in the "Teddy Bear" box in the OE/ME Lobby (Old Engineering Building, 36, across from library) starting Tuesday afternoon. You may give them to me during classes, or please bring them to any engineering type meetings if this is easier for you. If you are not an engineering major, please just swing by the box on your way to class if you have any!!"
And there you have it!
