Word Problem

The difference between two numbers is 16. Threee times the larger number is nine times the smaller.  What are the numbers?

x-y=16                      x-8=16 3x=9y                       x=24 x=3y 3y-y=16 2y=16 y=8                          (24,8)

Took the word problen and turned it into actual equations. then figured out what y equaled and pluged it into the other equation anf figured out what x equaled  and now we have what both x and y equal.
