Competition Equipment

The following forms a minimum equipment requirement for fencers in any competition:

  1. A fencing jacket.
  2. A cloth plastron under the fencing jacket.
  3. Socks that go under the pants when the fencer is engarde.
  4. Long pants that cover from the feet to under the fencing jacket when engarde.
  5. A fencing glove on the sword hand.
  6. An insulated club mask.
  7. Breast plates for girls and women.
The intention of this equipment is to ensure no skin is exposed when engarde except for the non-fencing hand.

The following extensions to the base equipment are made:

  • U13, U15, U17, Novice, School

    There are no changes to the base requirement.

  • U20, Intermediate

    There are no changes to the base requirement.

    From the beginning of the 3rd of April, 2005 fencers in this category will be required to wear fencing breeches and full length socks. The breeches do not have to have an FIE stamp.

  • Open, Veteran

    Fencers must wear at least one layer of 800N equipment on the torso, either the jacket or plastron.

    From the beginning of the 1st of June, 2005 fencers in this category will be required to wear the following equipment:

    • A fencing jacket rated to at least 800N.
    • A plastron rated to at least 800N.
    • Beeches rated to at least 800N.
    • A mask to be rated to at least 1600N.
    • FIE stamped weapons.

    • Fencers that are not using the correct equipment will be barred from entering a competition. Competition entry fees will still apply.
