Competition Grades
The following grades have been set by FencingSA
- Open
Open is a category available to all fencers with an emphasis on the
experienced competitors. Entry in Open competitions is available to anyone
who has a current senior or junior license with FencingSA.
- Intermediate
Intermediate caters for fencers who have moved on from Novice category but
are not yet able to fence competively in the Open category. Entry in Intermediate
competitions is available to anyone who has a current senior or junior license with
FencingSA.
A fencer can fence in each weapons Intermediate competitions until any of the following
occur:
- They win the State Intermediate competition for that weapon.
- They earn the most ranking points for the year in an Intermediate competition
for that weapon.
- They finish in the top 3 places of an Open competition of 13 or more entrants
for that weapon.
- Novice
Any fencer within their first 12 months since registration or junior/senior
licence with FencingSA. The fencer must still have a valid affiliation with FencingSA.
- U13, U15, U17, U20
Any age category event is considered a Junior event. The age category of a fencer is
determined by their age at the first of January for the current year. Fencers must
either hold a junior FencingSA license or be registered and attending a non-tertiary school.
- School
A School competition is to be considered as a Junior event. Entrants must meet
the qualities of any U13, U15, U17 or U20 fencer.
- Veterans
Veterans are open to fencers who have had their 40th birthday. To compete in
a veteran event the fencer must have a senior license with FencingSA and meet
the age requirement.
