I had a request to see the setlists of past Fervid Whisper shows, so now if you go to the Shows page, you can look at all the setlists I could remember.

Ophelia's Mask ran a fine show yesterday night. Each band had a different sound (and knew how to deliver it), so it was a very well-rounded show. OM's set was spectacular. I can't say enough good things about them. We thank them for inviting us to play at their show.

The CD Release Party went wonderfully yesterday! The audience was treated to hours of great music from a diverse range of bands. Rizen Underground started it off with heavy, intense, instrumental rock, complete with talk-box guitar and twin guitar shredding - awesome stuff. After that, we had Matthew Griffin, giving us a brilliant set of acoustic rock, featuring his unique, passionate vocals and elegant guitar work. Next up was Illithid, who invigorated the crowd with their well-chosen covers (SOTD, Tool, NIN, Deftones), aggressive original material, and their two singers with dramatic attention-grabbing voices. The following act, Ophelia's Mask delivered a blistering set, and played the theatre as if their audience was ten thousand, as opposed to a bit over one hundred. We thank all our openers for coming, and for contributing so much to the show.

After the four opening acts, we finally reached the lengthiest showcase of Fervid Whisper material to date, split over two sets. We were delighted to see our audience so attentive and receptive to our music. Matt Griffin, who had helped us continue playing while Sasha's arm was out of commission, sat in for Grace, a souped-up rendition of Lullaby (it was extended and excessive, with multiple instances of dueling guitar solos), and The Picnic Table Song. The show also saw the debut of two new songs.

I don't think the show could have been more of a success. Thank you so much to everyone who came, and also everyone who helped out (Lexa, Jake, Steve, and anyone else - if I remember more names, I'll include them in this list!).

Pictures from the show should be up eventually, whenever we can get scans from people who took them.

Finally, we have Naked Souls Embrace EPs! So, you now have the option to check out Fervid Whisper in studio-recorded form! Come to the CD Release Party if you can, but if that's not possible, you can click here to find out how else to obtain your own copy.

It looks like we're gonna be playing a show at The Kathedral in Toronto! August 14 is the date. Tickets are $10. More details will be up once we get them.

In other news, the cast is off, and Sasha's arm is back! He says it still feels sore (given that the arm hasn't been used for a while), but he should be fully functional as a guitarist soon.

The July 27 date for the CD Release Party is now official. Also, unfortunately, The Real Deal Orange peel can't make it to this show, so Illithid will likely be playing instead.

Finally! A date set for the CD Release Party! It'll probably be "official" tomorrow, but no point in waiting to let you guys know. It'll be at the Registry Theatre in Kitchener on July 27, 2002. Yes, I know that's a little while away, but we'll be selling the CDs as soon as we have them printed, and anyone who buys one before the CD Release Party will get a discount on the cover for that show. Our temporary guitarist Matt Griffin will be one of the openers at the CD release party. (You should all check out his disc Stimuli. I picked up my copy yesterday.)

In addition to that show, a couple weeks after the CD release party, we will have another show with different bands. So that'll be a couple FW shows within the time period of a month, so you will be able to hear a whole lot of great local artists.

Matthew Griffin, our temporary guitarist, has released his CD Stimuli. I believe you can pick up a copy from him for $7. So if you're needing an acoustic-guitar fix (and really, who doesn't?), you know who to go to with your cash.

Two songs from the Naked Souls Embrace EP are now up in the Audio section. Ecstacy, which seems to be a fan favourite, and Naked Souls Embrace, which is a band favourite. Enjoy.

As many of you may now know, Sasha broke his arm this past Saturday moshing to Rage, leaving Fervid Whisper without a guitarist. However, the situation has now been remedied. Fervid Whisper is proud to announce Matt Griffin as the man to fill in for Sasha while his arm heals. We appreciate having such a great musician (and a superior guitarist to both Sasha and I!) joining us, if only for a short period of time.

So what this means for you all is that you can expect no delay in our CD-release party! Speaking of which, our CD is almost ready to send off to be duplicated, so you guys will probably be able to get your hands on that soon enough. Matt Griffin has also been recording (at the same studio as Fervid Whisper did), so I believe you can look forward to a disc of his material eventually.

We played at a house party last night... somewhat of a lackluster set in a cramped garage. As far as I remember (we didn't plan a setlist), we played:

The Picnic Table Song / Ecstacy / The Darkest Skies / Vision / Naked Souls Embrace / Lullaby

And Sasha just called me... and he broke his arm at the party, sometime after I left. So we'll see about getting a temporary guitarist for our upcoming CD-release party and any gigs after that, but I suppose now you shouldn't expect a show before then.

The six bands had finished playing. Judging was to be by audience reaction. So they went down the list... the third name called was Fervid Whisper and it was greeted by a loud, sustained cheer by the group of hardcore FW-ites; they were told to stop cheering when the judge had heard enough. The next band names were called, and the cheers continued, but nothing seemed to match the enthousiasm for FW. Then the last band - Vacuity - was called out. And piercing screams came from their cheering section. The judge said that Vacuity appeared to be the loudest. Hope was lost for a Fervid Whisper victory - that is, only until official groupie Arielle stepped up and yelled at the judge complaining that the FW yells were sustained and heard from many voices. A "Fervid Whisper" chant was started. The judge was forced to resolve this difficulty by requesting a showing of hands for both bands. When the hands went up, the decision was decisive... Fervid Whisper was victorious!

So thanks so much to Arielle for stepping up and fighting for the Fervid Whisper cause; we wouldn't have won without you on our side. And our thanks of course extend to that entire group of people cheering for us. Don't think that I'm saying we were better than Vacuity or something though. They played an awesome set, and had the decision been in their favour, it would have been more than justified. (I'm listening to their great CD right now!) We have a lot of respect for great local bands like them. Check out their web site
here.

So I guess that's that. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us. We don't have any specific dates lined up for future gigs, but I'm sure there will be something in the next month or so.

The Big Show tonight went pretty well. I was impressed by some of the great GRCI talent up there. Near the end of the first half of the show, Sasha was on vocals for NIN's Hurt, and I must say, I've rarely felt so proud to be his bandmate; it was creepy and intoxicating. Lots of other great stuff througout the show too, like a crazy cover of Rush's YYZ. Fervid Whisper opened up the second half, and it seemed that audience reaction for The Darkest Skies was favourable. I'm sure many were bored by its 10 min length though. :-) But it was played by request, so oh well. Anyways, it was a cool show. Looking forward to playing tomorrow...

I've got a few more little details about the Big Show at G.R.C.I.  In Nine Inch Nails' Hurt, Ethan will be playing bass and Sasha will be singing.  Also, Sasha will be playing in The Smashing Pumpkins' Mayonaise.  And Fervid Whisper will of course be playing The Darkest Skies.  So, that's what you'll have as your Fervid Whisper fix at the Big Show.

If any of you people are planning to see the Big Show at G.R.C.I., you can look forward to Fervid Whisper playing The Darkest Skies. Also, I was told that Sasha will be singing Nine Inch Nails' Hurt. Not sure if Sasha or Ethan (the two GRCI students in the band) will be doing anything else in the Big Show though, but I guess it's possible.

Oh, and I bought a new Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp! So now all of us guitar-type-instrument-players in Fervid Whisper have nice loud amps. :-)

We figured the website needed to be redone, so behold the new design! Ethan came up with the basic idea for the layout, and I worked on it the last couple of days, and here we are. Hope you like it. Not everything's finished yet; still gotta add some pictures here and there and get the message board and mailing list stuff working.

In other news, we're playing a Battle of the Bands on Friday, May 10. The cool thing is we're up against a bunch of bands who we played a show with back in March: Baker's Beauties, The White Stripes and Vacuity. The details (as far as I currently know):

Friday, May 10, 2002
Battle of the Bands
Forest Heights Community Centre
1700 Queens Blvd, Kitchener, ON

If I get any further details, those will be available in the new Shows section.
