'The Forward Look' ....... in miniature -- pg 7 |
This '58 Chrysler New Yorker convertible was originally done in France by Norev in 1959, hence it's crude appearance. In the 1980's the model was reissued by Eligor, which is what this model is an example of. I love the real car; it's a shame that the only model available of it is rather lacking in detail. |
Here we have 2 more great 1958 Mopars from Western. #50 is the Buckskin Beige Plymouth Fury complete with gold grille and side trim, and #51X is the dark blue Belevedere convertible. These models are very nicely done considering that they date from the early '80s. Western also did a Belevedere hardtop coupe; naturally, in red and white (Christine!). |
Definitely an odd subject for a model, the '58 Plymouth Plaza Club Sedan pictured here also hails from Western. Notice the absence of the deluxe bumper ends, the correct side moldings, and the lack of whitewalls. It's a real 'stripper'. Western also did a police car version of this model. |
Western Models #63 is this charcoal and silver '59 Chrysler Saratoga. All side trim is photo etched, as is the grill. Also note the correct two-tone roof panel. Another well done and unusual piece from Western. |
The gold '59 Chrysler 300E shown here is the original version of Brooklin's #41, released in 1993. Nicely done, with a beautifully detailed grille, this model was re-released with better detailing in late 2000 and is now available in red. |
Another fabulous finned Mopar from Western, #60X, the 1959 DeSoto Adventurer convertible. It's great to have a model of this car because with only 97 of the real cars ever built, the chances of locating one are pretty slim. Western did a fine job on proportions and detailing, especially with the gold trim and wheelcovers. |
The gold trim is even more outstanding on Western's #60, this '59 Adventurer hardtop. The black finish is mirror-like and is beautifully set off by the multi-colored interior. A truly fantastic pair of DeSotos. |
Okay, I know it's not a Mopar, however, the French-built 1959 Simca Beaulieu pictured here was imported by Chrysler and sold through select Chrysler-Plymouth dealers. The beautifully detailed handbuilt resin model is from CCC of France and is built to order in very limited quantities. If you'll note some of the styling touches are very reminiscent of Virgil Exner's Forward Look. |
