1980 Land Rover 109 - Stage One
Repairs, Modifications and Adventures
(2007)

Winter / Spring / Summer 2007: I have set out to spray the inside of the Land rover with a spray in bed liner. I chose to take it to a professional shop here in Sterling. I like the finish of Line-X and the shop owner has proven to be very easy to work with and not shying away from a custom job. The plan is to cost the seat box, floor panels and lower bulkhead as well as the rear load space.

Part of the reason for this is that I can not find a replacement floor liner for a Stage One Land Rover. The Stage One has a different shaped transmission hump that a regular Series III or a Defender.

June 2007 Installed Overdrive:
I finally got around to installing the over drive I bought from Mike in the UK. The installation was not that hard - it was made a lot easier since the entire insides were taken out for the Line-X project.

August 2007 Mostly Re-Assembled:
I got most of the truck put back together and have been driving it occasionaly. I still need to sort out the finishing touches on the over drive shift lever and where it pokes through the interior.

September 2007 I drove 720 miles over the Labor Day weekend and ended up having to replace my Hooke's Carden Double U-Joint (front drive shaft). I was wondering what that vibration was...

I was able to source the new u-joints, on a Sunday, from the local Advanced Auto Parts store in Roanoke. I was worried that this part failure would leave me stranded waiting for parts but was well pleased with the outcome.

Bad Parts

Good Parts
October 2007 I got tired of bouncing around everywhere I went so I disassembled my rear parabolic spring pack and removed one of the four leaves. Now, I have a a three leaf set up instead of a four. The four was just too tight for the empty rear end of the truck. Three springs are still pretty tight, with little compression when off road and empty - but the ride is a lot nicer.

I had a two leaf set up on my old 1973 Series III short wheel base - and I thought that was great when empty but too soft when loaded. So, I think I will stay with what I have at the moment. (Especially since any other change will require spending money!!!)

December 2007 We had a little pre-Christmas snow this year. I thought I would capture a Clark W Griswald moment.
