vs
Cleveland State (2-3) vs. Akron (2-6)
Saturday, December 15, 2001
CSU Convocation Center
Tip-off - 2:00 p.m.
Akron Leads series, 30-28
2000 - Akron, 82-80

Breakdown:

 Likely Starters:
Akron: G Rashon Brown (Sr., 6-1, Cleveland, Ohio), G Emmanuel Smith (Jr., 6-3, Euclid, Ohio), F Andy Hipsher (So., 6-8, Akron, Ohio), F Darryl Peterson (Fr., 6-5, Cincinnati, OH) C Matt Seibert (So., 7-1, Columbus, Ohio)

Cleveland State: G Jamaal Harris (Sr., 6-1, Cleveland Hts., Ohio), G Jermaine Robinson (So., 6-2, Philadelphia, PA), F Theo Dixon (Sr., 6-6, Cleveland Hts., Ohio), F Andre Williams (Jr., 6-5, Clayton, NJ), F Tahric Gosley (Jr., 6-8, Philadelphia, PA)

Guards
The Viking pair  of Harris and Robinson have easily outscored their Zip counterparts Brown and Smith (24.0 ppg vs. 16.2). But both Harris and Brown are notorious for going cold, especially Brown. Whoever finds their stroke will have the advantage.
Advantage: Vikings
Forwards
CSU sports one of the HL's top players in Dixon, while Andy Hipsher is one of the MAC's elite. Hipsher, however, is still trying to get back to form after off-season surgery, so Dixon may have himself a field day over the taller Akron player. Williams does have some experience over the freshman Peterson, but the Monmouth transfer will certainly have to step up on defense.
Advantage: Vikings
Centers
CSU's Project isn't a part of this equation. Most likely, the 6-8 Gosley will be on the 7-1 Seibert. Look for Seibert to be the key to this game if Gosley can't contain him.
Advantage: Zips
Bench
Akron took a hit this week, as Andre Sims was declared academically ineligible and was dismissed from the team. Ironically, another ineligible player, CSU's Walt Chavis, may see his first action tonight. The Zip bench is extremely young. But the Vikes aren't much better, with freshmen John Rabb and Percell Coles doing much of the fill-in duty and 7-2 behemoth Pete Ritzema being The Project. Coles and Rabb will get the job done, though.
Advantage: Vikings
Coaches
Akron coach Dan Hipsher isn't in much better shape than Rollie. Hipsher, in his seventh year, has had to rely on his children (sophomore Andy and freshman Bryan) to fill roster spots, and have lost six games in the process. Rollie, well, you guys know about Rollie...
Advantage: Even
Prediction
Vikings in a squeaker, 74-72. Please. Akron is too young and inexperienced. But then again, so was Stony Brook. They will, however, pull this game out.
