The Society was founded in 1970 to bring together people with an interest in lapidary (gemstone polishing) and the study of mineral specimens, fossils and gemstones.
The Society meets at the Adult Education Centre at
Alma Road, Sidcup, Kent (11 miles from Central London) on Monday
evenings. We are equipped with machinery for cutting and polishing
stones. Instruction in the use of the machinery and the making of
cabochons out of semi-precious stones is given We are the only
Society in the south, in the public domain, to give instruction in
cutting and polishing.
The Society is a member of the following organisations:
Field Trips are organised to visit quarries and other mineral and fossil sites for the purpose of collecting specimens.
