Although Societies meet indoors as shown above,
many also conduct field trips to collect specimens or to study
geomorphology. The aims and objectives of the Societies may change
through the years and consequently their titles may not reflect
their present total activities. There is plenty of scope within the
Societies for members to follow their own aspirations and study one
or many of the fascinating segments of Earth Science (e.g.
gemmology, etc.). Joining a Society will introduce you to
likeminded members and enable you to gain knowledge and skills at
your own speed. There are, of course, many other similar Societies
within the U.K. and the Federation has produced a Directory which
is comprehensive. If you wish to contact a Society within your area
then telephone 020 7794 3720 or 020 8300 2405 whereupon F.L.A.G.S.
will try to help.
