Atlanta, an emotionally unstable college student, found herself the sole survivor of an airplane crash in the middle of the wilderness. Using survival skills she remembered, she lived well off the land as she hiked towards civilization. She expected to be greeted warmly, but in the end was given a settlement by the airplane company that barely got her an apartment. Calling on her martial arts skills and her abilities as a computer programmer, Atlanta managed to eke out a living for herself. Eventually she moved into a housein the suburbs of Aurora, Illinois. After growing inexplicably ill, she was forced to stop fighting for money, but then she started remembering things that couldn't have happened and having hallucinations that she could only describe as visions...
  Sim of June 26, 2002:
Then, acting on one vision, she and her friends, Rico, Scott, and Matt, headed through the deep woods where they slew two black licougars bent on killing them, discovered the ruins of an ancient settlement, and discovered a city beneath a mountain that the settlement was a front for. Within this mountain-city, the adventurers discovered a massive metal book that is feather light. The book was an Archive and it told all that it's makers knew of the Family of Swords, which Excalibur is the head of. And that sword Atlanta was willed by her Uncle? Also Excalibur. It took some tricks, but eventually even the doubting Matt Slagel was convinced that the sword was indeed the magical blade of legend. After convincing the party of the sword's authenticity, Atlanta insisted they find the room of buttons from her vision. When they found the room, a hologram appeared, calling Matt The Warrior, Scott The Scientist, Rico The Archive Bearer, and Atlanta the Sword Bearer. In a fit of confusion, the group decided to regroup at Atlanta's house and discuss the events of their journey.

After returning home, Atlanta called an old acquaintance of hers, Vin DiNiente. After hearing the tale, Vin flew to Aurora from New York state. Rico was very friendly to the young Italian, which prompted a string of disparaging remarks from Matt. While Rico was cooking lunch, a dispirited Scott arrived, having left the lab where he worked a early. The group swiftly agreed to go map those caves. Rico and Vin went in one group, mapping the tunnels the group had partially explored a week earlier. Matt, Scott, and Atlanta slowly explored the hallways, Atlanta making a detailed map as they went. They turned into a room to explore at about the same time Rico and Vin did the same, in a different hallway. Atlanta dropped to the floor. Vin was lifted off the ground by some unseen force and suffused with a blue glow. The rooms brightened, the paint on the walls began to look new, the furniture that had crumbled, rotted, or just generally gone away over the years reappeared, good as new. Shocked the group made for the exit to regroup and discuss what the hell had just happened. On the way out, Joe found a strange circular device about the size of a man's palm. The excitement did not end there, though. 20 people stood in what been the ruins outside the rock face. The ruins had also been renewed and were breathtakingly beautiful. Rico timidly asked to be allowed to speak to their leaders. They replied: "Renasu Renasri" (You are our leaders!). To which Vin could only reply, "Oh no. We're victims of destiny."

Upon further questioning, the 19 men and 1 woman identified themselves as Atlantiens. Members of an Atlantien Empire that spanned millenia. An Empire capable of time travel and travel between dimensions. Bask, the leader of this small colony, explains what happened.
The Atlantien Empire grew out of the Atlantien Race, but included many races in different castes and levels. The technology of the Empire was so far ahead of the rest of the galaxy that the Atlantiens saught out other races in other galaxies, searching for an equal. They found none that trully compared. There was one condition of their body they did not understand and could not repair called the Bur. The Bur was dubbed a sickness of the soul. A hero's curse. It slowly weakened the soul, possibly killing it, almost always killing the victim. How it was transmitted was not known, but it was known to strike only the great. The Bur had a 99% mortality rate.
Traveling across the galaxies in search of equals and information on the Bur, the Atlantiens developed a new idea. They felt it their duty to advance other races. To give the gifts of civilization, literacy, culture, religion, and full sentiency to younger races. They did this by taking individuals that showed greatest intelligence, superior endurance, and other qualities that made them ideal vessels of this knowledge. In exchange for the wisdom and knowledge imparted by the Atlantien Empire, the Atlantiens exacted labor from these individuals. Sometimes the labor was intellectual, if a race had progressed enough, but more often than not, the labor was grunt labor for which the Atlantiens did not wish to use technology. All such slaves were to be freed, and if they did not spend 20 years free among their own people, their owners could expect severe punishments, ranging from loss of all posessions to life long enslavement to death. However, these rules often went unenforced, especially on the smaller more remote colonies where slavery was most common.
On one of those small remote colonies, Atalanta was born to horse farmers. After a terrible storm destroyed the fences setting the horses free, Atalanta's father drove his human slaves to their limits and whipped one slave when he collapsed. The 8 year old (8 was the age of majority in the Atlantien Empire) Atalanta struck down her father and took the whip from him, whipping herself for allowing it to happen and whipping her father for doing it. Her father was later found dead. Atalanta left her father's farm in the hands of her mother - rightful ruler of any household by the mere fact of her sex - the Empire was strictly matriarchial, men facing serious punishments for rising above themselves, and worse punishments for molesting and abusing the women he belonged to (like his wife and Atalanta herself). Atalanta left for the city and began serious study in the castes of the Empire and eventually became a member of the Atlantien Militants - their equivelant of an army. Several friends swore themselves her Comrati, the highest and most binding oath an Atlantien can swear to another.
Over time, Atalanta rose to rule several colonies and reached high ranks within the Militants and all three Castes (Worker, Warrior, Religious). She forged an Archive in the name of a great Atlantien Religious figure, one long dead. The Archive decried slavery and insisted that the practice must end. Many embraced this newly 'found' Archive, but others rejected it, even after the DuFed (leader of the Religious Caste) declared it an official Archive. Atalanta had already been decreed a Blue Rank Worker (the highest ranking available to members of the worker caste). Atalanta shortly thereafter became DuFed, ruler of one third of the Atlantien Empire, the preserver of their beliefs. Atalanta slowly became govenor of varying colonies and was later named Task Master (leader of the Worker Caste).
After winning several battles against the Mal'Saturn and SaKrie (The Mal'Saturnians were a product of ultimate ego by the Atlantiens, a quest to create souls not bound to bodies. The Mal'Saturnians turned out to be sentient creatures of pure energy. The SaKrie evolved (or devolved) from a race in the Atlantien Empire, black and archnoid they strive to instill chaos and ultimately subjegate all other races to their chaotic will.), Atalanta was named 5th Sensai (a rank approximately equal to that of General). Her victories continued, her progress through the ranks of the militants accelerated, and the Empire's border was finally secure. She was named 1st Sensai - Commander in Chief of the Atlantien Militants. After writing several Archives on militant theory ranging from hand to hand combat to elaborate space battles, Atalanta was named Shakiri Alyte (leader of the Warrior Caste). This unification of the castes had not occured since the dawn of the Empire.
Atalanta declared herself JhedalKunk, and immediately had to face several attempts on her life. She and her comrati fled to earth in search of the Sword Family - one major branch of the Atlantien government which consisted of The Sword Bearers (the individuals who bore the swords of the Sword Family), The Voices of the Castes (the heads of the three castes), the JhedalKunk and her family, and the Council of Elders. Atalanta controlled the military, the Voices of the Castes, and now claimed the throne of the Empire, which had stood vacant for mellenia. Atalanta and her comrati freed a slave vessel full of humans to be enslaved. One slave, a human-atlantien half breed, swore himself her Comrati. They fled north to the island now called the Isle of Mann where they found the 5 Swords - Excalibur, Excabrete, The Sister Sword, The Brother Sword, and the Sword. Wielding Excalibur, Atalanta returned to the Empire and declared herself JhedalKunk once more. The Atlantiens could not argue with her on that count if she bore Excalibur, and most acknowledged her reign. But the Council of Elders declared her under the Influence of the SaKrie. She declared them lost in the past and declared that they and their followers stood in open rebellion.
The Golden Age of the Atlantien Empire was at an End.
The Civil War raged. Because of their high technology, the Atlantiens preferred to fight in a high tech version of medieval warfare, where wits and strength and speed survived, and the weak were culled from the herd. Atalanta fell sick with the Bur, but she went out onto the field of battle and time after time led her people to victory. The Mal'Saturnians and the SaKrie siezed upon the Empire's weakness and set about attacking them. Atalanta recovered from the Bur, but fell to it again. Once more she resisted it, lived on, but the Burr struck again, and Atalanta fell even more to it, realizing the Empire would fall without her guidance because she had so centralized it, Atlanta set about transferring entire colonies into a dimension that existed outside time. Then she set up monitoring devices on Earth for when humanity produced a genetic Atlantien. At that point, those individuals would be drawn to one settlement in North America where they would be greated by 20 of Atlantis's wisest and most skilled individuals, who would serve the new JhedalKunk and her Comrati -- if that Atlantien human survived the tests set before her -- and assist her in rebuilding and reviving the Atlantien Empire.
After concluding his tale, Bask paused for a moment. "The other Comrati died with her. Justonea and I alone lived on. He went forth and founded the Mal'kashans, a nomadic tribe dedicated to preserving our memory - and making sure those with our genes knew the truth of Atlantis. I went into the other dimension. Left Excalibur to find it's way to you, and waited there." He explained that Atlanta's illness was really her body evolving suddenly, and that it could be a mortal condition, but that the Atlantiens had the required technology to ease the transition. He then went on to name and clarify the roles of the party members.
Atlanta - JhedalKunk, Bearer of Excalibur.
Rico - High Bard, Keeper of the Archives, and Bearer of the Excabrete
Matt Slagel - The General, Bearer of the Brother Sword
Vin DiNiente - Influencer (a kind of mage who influences the energies around him.
Scott Thompson - The Healer
Tobias - The Scholar and Advisor. He will be the one to learn the new technologies and advise courses of action.
Gabe Hardimon - Demolitions and Modern Weaponry. Gabe's an expert at blowing stuff up and dealing with fire. Enough Atlantien technology deals with chemical reactions, fire, gas explosions, and so forth that Gabe's knowledge will surely come in handy.
Torin, an Atlantien worker, tried to cheer Rico up, who was feeling increasingly the outcaste, but his efforts at cheering up Rico devolved into a discussion of the morality of homosexuality - taboo in Rico's strict catholic argentina, but the norm in the Atlantien Empire. After the feast that night, Atlanta called Matt to her room to discuss his treatment of Rico. Matt apologized, unaware that he had been hurting Rico's feelings. They then discussed the coming war they would have to fight, agains the Mal'Saturnians, the SaKrie, and the Council of Elders' followers. Atlanta's conclusion was simple: "We just won't lose. We can't. and if we do...then we die a little sooner than we might have. We all die."

The Atlantiens trained their new leaders extensively in their language, weapons, culture, government, tactics, and a hundred other things. Each of the Merry Marauders have taken to varying things with varying levels of success. Atlanta, who had already received much of this training from the Mal'kashans, spent most of her time pooring over the Archives, getting to know the Atlantiens better, and touching base with her human friends and making sure they were holding up under the shock ok.
Atlanta also discovered that her diplomatic duties had already begun. According to Bask (and the Archives, Atlanta checked) JhedalKunks are supposed to be married to at least one man in addition to any wives they might take. And JhedalKunks are supposed to have at least one child by natural means with one of these husbands. But what man does a big dyke marry? The biggest flamer she can find. So Atlanta proposed to Rico and was accepted.
Rico promptly was possessed and his eyes turned purple as something spoke through him claiming that they knew and they saw. Rico's possessor mocked the rallying efforts by the human leaders of the Atlantiens and dropped numerous more clues before leaving Rico his body.
Matt continues to be absent from the group as he emerses himself in tactics and battle plans and studies his enemies in gravest details. Bask urges the humans that now is the time to go wake up another colony. A larger colony, with more technology. Just one thing guys, this next colony might not be totally on their side...

At Bask's urging, Vin, Atlanta, Rico, and Tobias headed out to the site of a colony in the mountains of Peru. After Rico tried to get the Glider Tech to fly his glider for him (he'd just sit behind and hold on...tight) and much bitching by Atlanta about how draining the process was, Vin brought the high tech colony back into time. As the foursome tried to find someone in power - or a bench, so Atlanta could sit down - they came across a cloaked figure brutally beating a man in an allyway. It was discovered that the victim was a viscious serial rapist on the run from Atlantien Law. But who was that masked man?

The group is alerted to the presence of two intruders in the city. Justane is sent out and returns with two US Army Green Berets who had been sent to investigate the city. The two are interogated, but little is learned. Gabe calls the United States Pentagon and tells them to send the Secretary of State to the City - immediately.

With the US Seceratary of State and the US Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff due within one hour, the group meets to discuss what they will be taking from the US to overlook this invasion of Atlantien soil. Atlanta asks whether they will want to use the technological superiority of the Empire to force humanity to take certain steps against crimes against sentiency - genital mutilation, hunger, trade in sentient beings for sex and slavery, and many other crimes all too common in the world. The group decides that, for the time being, they have enough on their plate without risking making the entire planet hostile to the Empire. Atlanta accepts this finding and tells them one other thing she will be demanding from the United States. Access to a piece of ancient technology, left on Earth by another race: the Stargate. Use of this technology will allow the group to awaken numerous colonies not on earth.

Having witnessed a bombing, the group seeks shelter as it decides it's next move. A strange person approaches the group, introducing itself as the "Scruff, Scruffy Dyke." The Scruff had been on a retreat in "The Wastes" and was only just returning, thus Scruffy led the group to shelter in the forested rock maze outside the city, sending most of the group back to the gate. Rico, Bob, Joe, and (someone else?) entered the city and encountered an acquaintance of the Scruff, who had been injured in the bombing. They ran for the safety of the rocks, and Yaluhshei, as the injured citizen was named, explained what was going on. The settlement had declared itself 'nuetral' - siding neither with the Council of Elders nor Atalanta's radical changes and crusade against the elders. Neither faction accepted this stance and militants of both sides had been attacking the city - bombings, assassinations, bombing runs, vandalism, and riots - killing many of the peaceful citizens. Scruffy keeps protesting that this is all Atalanta's fault because she has no sauve, no je ne sai qua...
