No retirements.
We remove the Franchise designation from DT Christian Peter and
place it on FB Edwin Bednarik. Bednarik wouldn't renegotiate, but
his skill level coupled with his backup's refusal to re-sign left us with
no choice.
Both our Scout, Erik Johan, and Coach, Martin Force stay.
They are both clearly the creme-de-la-creme at their positions. I
recommend giving Johan a raise in the near future.
Fan Loyalty and Support for Stadium are both maxed-out at 100 (again).
Since we are coming off a Superbowl year, (but still saw a sharp decrease
in revenue), we raise prices between 4%-6% across the board. Still, none
of our prices are the highest in the league.
Franchise Value: 716,230,000 (1st overall, 42/100/99/52) Free Agency The Draft Trades Unhappy with the draft depth, we trade down.
Trade #2: 2008 1st (7) and 3rd (7) rounders to Philly for 2008 1st (10)
and 2nd (10) rounders.
Unable to choose between a stud G and a maxed-out LB, we look to
pick up another 1st rounder.
Trade #3: Backup LB Conrad Bernstein to Minnesota for 2008 1st
rounder (12).
Our 4th trade has several motivations. Backup RB DeStefano is
demanding a trade and is int he last year of his contract. This draft is
also stacked with Cornerbacks (as are we). So we can probably move a good
veteran backup and not lose much in that category.
Trade #4: Backup CB Jerald Mummert and backup RB OJ DeStefano
to San Diego for 2008 2nd rounder (17) and 2009 1st rounder.
We draft:
10. Freddie Kobeski, LB, Indiana (94/96/98/72). We tried for a solid hour to get a stud DE from another team, but the
asking price was three 1st rounders - to much in my estimation. Hopefully,
the draft cupboard is full for Darkiller for the next two years: 4 1st
rounders, 2 2nd, 2 3rd, 2 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th.
We sign every draftee and renegotiate almost every contract on the
roster - re-upping almost every starter for 3 more years. We end up with 6
million dollars in cap flexibility.
After training camp, we receive an interesting offer for Sheen.
The first pick in the 2008 draft - who happened to be a DE. We pass.
We finish the exhibition season a respectable 3-1. Chapman and Battle
perform well. The magnificent seven are activated and we get ready to
start the season. Our passing cohesion drops like a stone though -
probably because Davies was moved to third string and Sieh was traded.
Hopefully this will normalize after a few games. Hopefully.

Honor Roll
RB Donnie Sheen: 297 att, 1,349 yds, 4.7 ypc, 11 tds, 37 rec.,
369 yds, 4 tds. Key Players Analysis
We were decimated by injuries this year and
that is what derailed us, plain and simple. Davies missed three games out
right and was questionable in at least 4 more. We lost a number of
starters for the season or extended time due to injury. The good news is
that everyone is signed and Daveis and Sheen are chugging to the Hall.
Good luck Darkiller. This bad year could have been a blessing in disguise, as many guys that
were 2 or 3 years away from developing (QB Chapman, our two stud young LBs,
some o-linemen) got lots and lots of real game experience.
Offense
Skill Positions: Our bread and butter. Two future HOFers here,
although I am concerned about Davies' long-term durability (he misses 2
games per season on average). Conversely, Sheen hasn't missed a game in
SIX SEASONS. Davies and Sheen are signed through 2011 and 2010,
respectively. FB Edwin Bednariks skill level is starting to decline in to
the low 60's, but he should be fine through at least the end of his
contract (2010). It might be worth re-upping Chapman now - as he is
getting pissy about backing up Davies. The wideouts are a an outstanding
group and have a nice mix - two 9-year vets (Wallace, Woodson) and two 2nd
year guys (Bushon, Dougherty). I think Bushon, in particular, is going to
be something special. Offensive Line: Lots of old guys, but I have always held the
belief that the best o-lines are manned by grizzled veterans. Our cohesion
rating for this group (96) is second in the league. The Tackles (Nails
(78/99/72), Adams (87,81,90) are still playing at a high level, as is G
Roundtree (89/100/63). G Brown (78/53/64) and C Smith (91/59/69) are
begining to wear down. We have two guys T Willie Guy and C Cornell
Flowers, who are ready to step in and contribute - I had Guy starting at
Guard last year with some of the o-line injuries and he did well. A lot of
the young guys are getting pissed about having to sit, so some decisions
need to be made. Our Tes are solid, with TE Stark still playing at a high
level - with a solid backup behind him (Bobby Lofton). Defense
Defensive Line: Suprisingly, this unit held up without injury -
all year long. The DTs are strong in the pass rushing area and (except for
Mudgett) are weak against the run. DT Pieper (60/78/96) and DT James
(67/92/57) are certainly serviceable and can keep this position manned
until a Mudgett-clone drops in our laps. DT Peter is odd man out and not
happy. Trade him while he has value. The DEs are another story. DE Jason
Taylor, while only missing 4 games in 10 years, is near the end - he
started every game for us last year but only recorded 3 sacks. And he is
awful against the run - before our rash of injuries to the LBs, I was
starting LB Morotn at DE against the run. DE McDaniel (41/42/27) and
Hisxon (54/64/45) are no better than backups. Thank god for DE Matt
Champion (87/92/100) - and he's signed through 2011. Linebackers: In a year or two, we are gong to have a linebacking
corps for the ages. They got crushed by injuries this year, though, and I
am hoping that Duke (61/81/89/93) can return to form. If he can, we are
ooking at the potential of three maxed-out starters (Duke, 3rd year Phil
West, 2nd year Freddie Kobeski)and backups like the hard-nosed Roose (484
career tckls), and overachievers KC Morton (5th round pick) and JR Farmer
(7th round pick, 5 year starter) . Secondary: The same can be said for our Secondary. Our corners
(4 potential/actual excellents)are young and infinitely talented - I think
Ferderer (17 ints in 3 years) can make the HOF. So are our two starting
safeties, Quinn (4 year vet) and Swift (2 years). If we need anything
here, its a backup to help the aging Leomont Evans (13 year vet). All-Overpaid Team All-Underpaid Team
