Today I took Casey to the Nature Center. This time it was open, though the kid didn't spend much time looking at the exhibits. The current exhibit is about the Maidu, and looks interesting... if you're over 7, anyway. We went for a nature walk again. The very first thing, a fawn started up almost under our feet and boinged off. I've not seen one that young before. It startled us both. We saw woodpeckers (one doing the Woody "ah-ah-ah-AH-ah!" call.) Casey was fascinated by a beetle and spied a tiny lizard. "Does it bite?" "Yes, but you can't feel it, but it won't let us catch it anyway." Off it dashed, "wow! That's FAST!"
We threw rocks into the river and the kid took home four different kinds of rocks. Going to be a geologist? I'm so proud!
Then, going back home I got stuck in traffic and finally yelled at the kid who was fidgeting, poking, and eventually lying down on the seat. Drat. That's two weeks in a row I've lost control. I'm off next week, and maybe in September we can relate sensibly.
Tonight we went to our last Music Circus show in the tent, Paint Your Wagon. I spied some folks I knew in the crosswalk before the show, but never saw them in the tent. (I actually wanted to avoid them, good practice for next week at ConJose.) The show was really good.
