NEW I've finished redrafting Yellowfire, a science-fiction novel. It's now available in e-format from NoSpine.com for £4.35. Chapter One is on the site as a sample, or you can read the prologue here on this site.
'Yellowfire' is about Freyni, who wasn't sure what to expect when she married Dempsey Lowe and took herself and her son out to live on his remote homestead on a half-frozen planet known as Tundra. Her husband is murdered the day before she arrives by a known outlaw called Rivelin, a man known and feared as much for his mutation as for being a killer. Rivelin shows up at Freyni's new home, claiming he's been framed. Shortly afterwards there's another visitor, a stranger who answers to the nickname 'Pony'. He seems to want to help Freyni but no one knows that he too is a mutant, in a time when any suggestion of genetic alterations in humans is regarded with fear and loathing. Rivelin just has an extra finger, a natural mutation, but Pony is a psi. Although he can read minds and sense feelings, he must remain isolated from close contact or risk his own death.
