CURRENT NEWS At last we have cause for modest celebration, as a lease has been given to a caterer and work on restoring the reception rooms of the mansion is in full swing. Like us, the new caterers, Bovingtons, have patiently waited whilst the various local government authorities worked their way through the maze of legal problems. Let us hope that the caterer's wait will prove to be worth it and we wish then every success in their new venture The weekend of th 18th and 19th July saw the symposium "Nonsuch Gold" at Bourne Hall marking the 50th Anniversary of the excavation of Nonsuch Palace. Professor Biddle gave a talk on "Reconstructing Nonsuch" and showed the set of drawings from which it is hoped that a model of the palace can be built. These drawings have been made possible by the financial contributions of the London Borough of Sutton (through the tireless work of the Friends of Whitehall) and the Friends of Nonsuch It is a pleasure to be able to provide such positive news let us hope this continues to be the case Gerald Smith |
