Froebel family in Australia

from 1856 to 1999

The pioneer

Johann Christian FROEBEL arrived in the colony of Victoria in 1856. Records of early settlers at WOLLERT a small township just north of Melbourne include the name Johann FROEBEL. He married and had one son.

The second wave

After the death of his wife and son, his nephew Albert FROEBEL arrived from Kranichfeld in 1885. Albert had three sons, Otto, Wilhelm and Albert (my grandfather) and two daughters. They lived at Preston, a suburb seven miles north of Melbourne.

The next generation

Of the 10 grandchildren of Albert FROEBEL there are three men with the FROEBEL surname, William, Neal, and Keith, all of whom are alive today.

My generation

There are three Froebel men in my generation, Wayne, Neil and Graham. In all 15 great grandchildren

and beyond?

Of the 23 great great grandchildren two who bear the Froebel name, Daniel and Isabella.

New arrivals

In recent years another branch of the Froebel family have settled in Melbourne. So far we have not been able to establish the family connection.
