![]() Why do we dream? That is one really good question. Yesterday I was watching this movie "Preacher's Wife" (Rakastuin Enkeliin) on Tv. Whitney Houston played the leading lady and at some point she sang a song that had lyrics somewhat like this: " Everyone wants to get noticed, everyone wants to be important. We all have our dreams, more important than the stars... When we finally find that one to love, we no longer are alone. Then we have found what we seek... " Doesn't that say it all? We all want to be more than we are in the real world. We want to be loved, we want to get noticed. We want to be important to someone. So then why are we not more than we already are? The reasons can be various. Maybe we are scared. Maybe we are shy. Or maybe being more than we are, just isn't an option for some of us. So we dream about being something else we are. Dreaming offers us a way to escape everyday life and experience different lives than our own. It offers us freedom, it gives us the power. Us Buffyfans often might dream of being some of the characters of our favorite series, or otherwise things involved with them. Like seeing familiar scenes of the show in our dreams at night, maybe acting them out ourselves, or making them different. That is one of the most fun parts of dreaming; we can affect situations like we please. In dreams we can learn how to handle difficult situations in life and maybe come up with a solution for our problems. We can kill hidious monsters a.k.a beat the crap out of that annoying biology teacher and therefore release some anger that had been bottling up inside of us. We can go to picnics with our favorite cute star of the show a.k.a finally gather up courage to ask out that one girl/boy we like and therefore find a way to come over social issues. And we can do so many other things too. These were just examples. Often when a person is stressed and under a lot of pressure, the issues they are having follow them to their dreams too. And that can be exhausting. But what our mind really is trying to do, when making us dwell in our problems over and over again, is to try find a solution to them. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. Dreams are not miracle-makers, no matter how wonderful and amazing they can be. Important is also to know the difference between dream and reality. But if we know that, it is all right to mix up the fantasyworld with the real one. But JUST as long as we know which is which! Do not get me wrong, I'm not telling you not to dream (god forbid!), just not to get TOO far with it. Because the real world is still the one we have to live in. But dreaming makes it more fun to live in and with. Dreaming spices it up a bit. Dreams advice us how to make our lives more pleasant. So dream!! :) From personal experience I can tell daydreaming REALLY spices life up! Like a couple of years ago, when sitting in a boring programming class...I suddenly started thinking how would *I* write the ep 'Surprise' if I was on Joss's place. Well it's not that hard to guess how I'd write it, but that is a whole another story. Maybe I'll write a fanfic out of it someday :) The point is, I immediately felt rejuvenated and more energetic, when for a few moments, thinking of the things I like. Instead of that stupid programming our teacher was trying to teach us. Still, do not let daydreaming ruine ur education. Hih. I think I'm now old enough to say things like that *playful smile* I have learned the hard way, where the boundaries of daydreaming lie. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and listen that teacher to pass ur classes. I myself have been forced to do that to pass some mandatory classes like that one in math, which COULD have gone better if I'd paid attention instead of writing BtVS-poetry in the class...*innocent grin* ;p But the point is, that getting off the course (read:dreaming) is allowed, when it doesn't affect too much on ur life. Like slouching in front of the computer at work, staring to nowhere and having nice thoughts, when there is no boss in sight...hihih! *wicked grin* Dream, but do NOT get caught! :) So basically there really is not only one reason why we dream. There are more reasons we dream, than there is stars in the sky! And that we should keep in mind; only the sky is the limit to our dreams and hopes. And as we know...there is no end in the space...as far as the scientists know now, it goes on and on and on... And so like I to think too. There is no ending when it comes to dreaming. Dreams are the power that keep us alive. They bring us hope, light, courage, faith and god knows what else! So, to make it a cliché: dream and make ur world a better place to live! I wish you all nice dreams....and when you do, be sure to send me some too to be published in these pages! :) |
