"Hands represent friendship, crown represents loyalty and the heart...well, you know."

Those were the words Angel said to Buffy on her 17th birthday, before all of the worst nightmares became true...after their one night of passion.

Claddaugh ring. An ancient irish legend. Many stories can be told involving this sacred sign of devotion. Sweethearts could exchange this ring with each other and in the eyes of the society back then in Ireland, they could be considered as married couple. Many fans throughout the world have toyed with this idea: what if Angel have told Buffy the true meaning of the ring? What if..? Charming those two words, aren't they? What. If.

Still, I kinda like it better that he didn't. Sometimes things are better left unsaid. Because..somehow the truth untold makes it all much more interesting. Because now, the ring has some secret meaning. Secret, that is meant to be cherished.

Though between Buffy and Angel the ring never did achieve it's full meaning, it doesn't make it any less important. If it was the thing that got Angel free from Hell, it must be something. It was enough to break the boundaries between dimensions. It didn't matter what it was, but what did matter..was what it meant to them.

If it's important enough to you, then it IS important. Love often is. Even when must to keep hidden.
