Overview - Main Engineering
Located on Deck 21
The heart of the PROPHECY can be accessed via the ship's two turbolifts, located on either end of the small corridor leading to the massive double doors of the Main level of Engineering located on Deck 21. These doors are normally left open as per orders of the Chief Engineer. Only when the ship is in a state of alert or that a potential problem is detected are these closed.
Just beyond the massive doorway lies a wide carpetted concourse, with rows of consoles along either side. A large, circular shaped console stands at the center of this area. This is the Master Situations Display, also referred to as the Engineering Control Island. Holographic emitters set into the surface of the MSD can project a 3-dimensional image of the same cross-sectional schematic of the PROPHECY that can be found on the bridge. This display along with controls set directly into it's surface allow the engineers to keep track of the vessel's status at any given moment as well as controlling and routing power to any of the hundreds of systems aboard the PROPHECY.
Beyond the concourse lies a spacious open area. The matter/antimatter reaction assembly, more commonly known as the warp core chamber, dominates this space. The assembly itself stretches up to the ceiling of Engineering three decks up, and beyond. The warp core receives deuterium slush (matter) from the Deuterium Fuel Storage pods above it on Deck 18 and antihydrogen from the PROPHECY's antimatter generators below on Deck 24. The resulting plasma stream is then fed out through two massive Power Transfer Conduit that lead aft, disappearing into the rear wall of Main Engineering, where EPS taps siphon off a fraction of the plasma for use in powering the ship's many systems, the rest of the plasma is then channeled to the PROPHECY's two warp nacelles.
The upper level of the Engineering department, located on deck 20, directly above the main level, can be accessed via secured doorways leading from the deck, via a ladder located near the CEO's office which spans all three levels or via an elevator used for bringing heavey equipment to the appropriate level.
This level holds the 2nd aCEO's work station as well as the consoles which monitor the status of the ship's external systems such as the bioregenerative hull, warp field and main deflector.
The lower level of the Engineering department is restricted to high clearance personnel only as it holds the ship's Dimensional Fold Engine, affectionately referred to as the D-Drive. Thanks to this device, the PROPHECY is capable of opening a rip in the fabric of space allowing it to travel to other dimensions. Although the D-Drive has been in operations for a few years, the mapping and exploration process is a lengthy one, and as this technology is not widely publisised, the PROPHECY can only use the Dimensional Fold Engine under direct authorisation from Starfleet Command or in situations deemed absolutely necessary by the CO.
