  • TECHNOLOGY NOTES:

    IDC SYSTEM, SERIES 1:

The PROPHECY incorporates Exocomps within its basic operating system, a concept that has proven useful on previous Starships. A "colony" of eight (8) Exocomps and (1) Exopod calls this unique Prophecy-class vessel home. The Exocomps’ primary duty is the maintenance and repair of the ship’s main system while the Exopod oversees to the colony’s work and fair treatment by the crew. Only the Exopod possesses an above average intelligence and verbal interface which allows it to communicate directly with any member of the crew without relying on the ship’s main computer to translate any pertinent information. This colony, in combination with the widely accepted biohull and a new computer system, are essentially an aggregate organism, allowing for incredible repair time and efficiency throughout the ship.

    BACKGROUND:

John D. Wells designed the PROPHECY-class Dimensional Light Cruiser, which was the culmination of research and experimentation with trans-dimensional shifting, a technology first encountered with the Locustan Regime. The need for a ship dedicated to dimensional exploration was brought into question as the Locustan Regime broke down into a civil war. With the Locustan/Romulan hostilities divided, Starfleet was able to divert attention to regrouping and taking the war to the Locusta, rather than waiting for the imminent invasion.

The civil war within the Locustan Regime severely hindered their ability to attack this and any other dimension. It is strongly believed the Regime no longer has the support, nor strength to be considered a serious threat. But, as with all war, pockets of conflict remain scattered throughout the dimensional layers of our universe. The Prophecy-class cruiser was designed to seek out these pockets and any allies that exist, this in order to create a valid defence against any possible future uprising of the Regime as a whole. The Prophecy-class cruiser's secondary mission is to gather intelligence on the Locusta and any race loyal to their ideals and report back to Starfleet Command their strengths, abilities and locations.

The PROPHECY has nearly twice the number of decks usually found on a frigate, and is nearly one-quarter longer and fully twice the width of a standard combat vessel. However, with the increased size of the ship, comes an increased amount of science labs, medical labs, and scientific equipment. The weapon’s system on the ship, have not increased proportionally, they have specifically been limited to decrease the possibility of the vessel being miss-labelled as a war ship. However, the pulse phaser cannon system that was installed as a way of making would-be attackers think twice before engaging in hostilities.

The Prophecy-class Trans-Dimensional Cruiser has integrated bio-neural circuitry that allows for a much faster response, higher efficiency and quicker information assimilation. As a ship's size is increased, speed is sometimes an unfortunate casualty. However, careful attention was given to the Prophecy-class and processing speed was in no way sacrificed. The cruiser's twin nacelles, mounted to either side of the engineering hull, permit the ship to travel at cruising speeds of warp 5.9, with a maximum sustained velocity of Warp 8.125. During testing, the PROPHECY attained the speed of Warp 9.9995 for a full ten seconds, before the engines were shut off.

The Prophecy-class utilizes a hull configuration first introduced by the Akira-class over half a century ago. However, the sleek design was corrupted with the addition of cargobays and several decks on the ship's forward section. Though the Prophecy-class is considerably smaller than the historic Galaxy-class ship, technological advancements have given the ship more than enough to make up for the difference.

The Prophecy-class is equipped with the most modern bio-hull, capable of instantaneous reaction to damage. The bio-hull also has integrated kinetic dispersion components that absorb and spread the shock of a blast across the hull, lessening the force generated at the point of impact.

For defence and offensive purposes, the ship has three types of weaponry. The first of these weapon types are the main phasers, which perfectly conform to Starfleet’s new standards. The second weapon system are the Quantum torpedoes, a common fixture on Starfleet vessels. The last but definitively not least of these weapon system are the Pulse Phaser Cannons located in the equipment module above deck one at the rear of the ship. This high-energy weapon system allows a short plasma discharges to be stored and released in rapid sequences preventing easy dispersion of the charge.

Recently, the PROPHECY was upgraded with a Mark II Ablative armour system that supplements the Bio-Hull Matrix in dealing with the unexpected surprises which dimensional travel can bring. Also, due to recent dealings with the Locustan Regime, Starfleet Command opted to give it’s only trans-dimensional ship a better chance to survive encounters with the Locusta and other potential threats to the Federation and it’s allies.
