dear damon

latter half of August 1999

Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs of Oasis has left the band. This may seem to have nothing to do with you, damon, but I'm worried...You may know already that he supposedly left to spend more time with his family, especially with his two young daughters. I hope and pray that this isn't going to become a trend among young (er) artists who become mothers and fathers. I can understand not wanting to go on extended tours which would take you away from your children. Kids have a funny way of growing up so quickly that before you know it, you might be staring at a child of yours that has reached the age of majority without you having had much of a chance to be a parent to him or her, except for financially providing for him or her. There must be a middle ground where you can be with your children and yet be the artist that you are meant to be. I don't believe much in the "househusband" routine because it seems to emasculate men so, but by the same token, to become a stranger in your child's eyes is a sad tragedy. I hope that, when the time comes, you, Graham, Alex and Dave (although he seems to be balancing home and career just fine) will be able to find that "M.O.R." to become the best artist and father/husband that you can be. I expect no less of you, because I believe that you are all capable of it.

Fondly,
frances
