New Skipper
After spending the past week interviewing for the recent Hayashi head coaching vacancy, Mark Trollinger called a 1:30 press conference today to announce his new hire. In an unprecedented move, Trollinger looked outside of the professional ranks to find the Silver Dragons' third head coach. Having interviewed a reported five candidates for the position, Trollinger announced Miami of Ohio coach Terry Hoeppner will lead Hayashi next season. Hoeppner, who coached Miami to a 13-1 and a conference title will officially sign with Hayashi later today. As expected, all of the football coaching personnel were asked to resign or accept new positions within the organizations. Vice President of Media Relations, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf, waterboy Bobby Boucher and Vice President Dance Team / Cheerleading, Alyson Hannigan all remained with the team in their same capacity. Ray Rhodes accepted the position of Director of Player Personnel and Running backs coach Bo Jackson will remain with the team as an advanced scout. All other coaches resigned to pursue other interests.
Coach Hoeppner will begin assembly his coaching staff over the next few days and weeks.
The new coach spoke about his new job. "Wow - unbelievable. It is hard to put into words how I feel right now. It's almost like winning the powerball or having Hale Berry ask you to marry her. It's a fantasy, a dream come true. There is nothing I can say about coach Ray Rhodes and his five year history of the team that hasn't already been said. 2001 CDFL Chapmions, winning the Wild card in 2002 and dispite a disappointing 2003 season, he turned it around this season to not only bring back a winning tradition to the team, but make the playoffs and finish fifth in a tough league. That dedication, determination and coaching skill is something that I hope that I can build on. My collegiate coaching experience was successful and brought a championship trophy to Miami of Ohio. My expectations are to keep Hayashi in the playoff picture and to win another championship within three seasons. I look forward to next season and meeting many of the CDFL Legends such as Chris Komandt, Greg Neer and Dale Johnson. Founding fathers of a league well known around the world. I also envision deepening our rivalries with the Buckeye Beasts and Tempe Tantrums. Or is that Tempe SilverDragonLovers?
I first found out last night that I would be given the opportunity to coach this team. At that time I began making a preliminary list of coaching candidates that I would be interested in bringing on board. I hope to bring quality coaches as well as some former Silver Dragons back on board. After the staff is complete, we will immediately begin accessing the team situation and draft preparations for next season. Thank you for coming today."
