The Detlef Schrempf Foundation was formed on January 1, 1996, by Detlef Schrempf and his wife, Mari. Detlef has spent most of his basketball career in Washington state, where he attended Centralia High School and the University of Washington. Detlef was drafted in 1985 by the Dallas Mavericks. He was traded to the Indiana Pacers and in November of 1993 made his way back to the Pacific Northwest and became a member of the Seattle Sonics. For Detlef's 15th and 16th NBA seasons he traveled down the I-5 corridor to play for the Portland Trail Blazers. The Schrempfs make the Northwest their permanent home, and as a result, have become an active part of the community. The Detlef Schrempf Foundation grew out of their concern for children, their belief in the value of a solid family life, and the desire to give back to a community that has given them so much. The Detlef Schrempf Foundation is primarily a "special event" organization, raising nearly all monies through organized sporting events, celebrity dinners, gala auctions, golf tournaments, etc. A portion of the foundation’s funds, however, are raised through speaking engagements and special appearances as well as corporate sponsorships and private donations. The foundation is interested in charity partners that complement its current mix of charity organizations, and at the same time, fulfill the Detlef Schrempf Foundation's mission. The Foundation is unique in the fact that the Schrempfs finance nearly all administrative costs, leaving a substantial amount of event fundraising to be gifted to local charities. |
