On 16 July 1907 he applied for a pension as a Civil War Veteran. In 1909 he was receiving a pension of $100. per year. An affidavit by Dr. W. Kilmer, dated 24 Sept 1915, shows he asked for an increase in his pension because he was suffering from enlargement of the liver, plus "sclerosis of arteries and senility" and was disqualified from manuel labor. He was 70 years old at that time.
