The passing of a brother -
From Mr. Ron West (son of Bro. Ed K. West 1938)
Hi.
This is Ed's (Edward K. West) son, Ron.
I know some of you on his email list, and don't know others, but I
figured
I'd just send the same email to all. If these names aren't ringing a
bell of
recognition, delete away now.
There's no gentle way to say this, so I'll just jump right in. Ed
passed
away on Dec 7th. Sometime during the early morning hours of that
Tuesday, his
heart just stopped. He'd always enjoyed the joke about a guy wanting
to die
peacefully in his sleep, rather than yelling and screaming like the
passengers in his car as it went over the cliff. At least Dad wasn't
driving.
I'm glad he asked me to move him out to California to stay with Bonnie
and
me after Mom died. I enjoyed being able to help him when he needed
help, but
I enjoyed getting to know him again even more. Trying to maintain a
relationship with parents who are 3000 miles away on the right coast
while raising
your own family on the left coast is kind of tough. Things slide. So
having
him at the table for meals every day for a year and a half was a total
joy. I
work out of the house, so our arrangement for this was perfect--either
of us
could seek out the other whenever we wanted to chat--and chat we did.
We
built an addition off one side of the house for him we called "The West
Wing"
so he enjoyed having his own space yet was as close as a "Hey Ron!"
I'll miss
our talks.
If anyone feels the need to send flowers or whatever, don't. Instead,
give
a gift of cash to your local Hospice organization--he was quite
impressed
with the way they helped during Mom's last days last year.
I'll be cancelling this email account soon, and until then will
probably not
read any mail sent here. Please direct any responses, comments or
questions
to

Take care
