The Empire fell a thousand years ago. Among the first places the fighting began was the Imperium's Western edge, along the border with the Elven kingdoms. Here the fighting was worse than in other places, bloodier, more powerful, more complete. The region was blasted into a wasteland long before the end of the war, its few remaining inhabitants reduced to barbarism.

When the Elves saw what had become of their former foes, many rejoiced. Others wept for the fall of an empire so advanced, no matter how evil. The High Elves, against the advice of their brethren, set about helping the few remaining Humans back to civilization. This time, however, the elves took an active role in Humanity's affairs, instead of isolating themselves behind a wall of assumed superiority. Over the centuries that followed, four new kingdoms rose. Founded on human ingenuity and guided by elven principles, Humanity rose again from the ashes.

The Overhill campaign is a high fantasy setting. Unlike other campaigns I have run, there is no guiding theme, except for adventure. The setting is upbeat and open to any and all races. The potential for character development is limited only by the imagination of the players.

To date, this campaign has attracted six salwart adventurers who have traveled from the remote town of Guilded Wood to the capital of the province of Walden, the city of Dunneral. There one of their number became famous as The Puddingslayer. There also, the party engaged in some recreational tomb raiding beneath the abandoned temple to Bast. From Dunneral, the party forged south through the province of Cark and into the province of Barrow where they played a part in forcably laying some unquiet dead back to sleep. From Barrow, the party returned to Walden province and, along the way, met the wizard Jarabain who contracted the party to plunder an inter-dimensional magical garden for him. To access the garden, the party forged into the Thorn Wood and into the ruins of the ancient city of Ish. Now, having emerged unsuccessful from the ruins, the party has again fled to Dunneral where the name of the Puddingslayer has gained much respect. Can the party, and the Puddingslayer survive their own fame when the town is being ravaged by a cult of slime worshippers, or will fame provide nothing more than an exceptionally public death for them all?
