Well, you clicked it, so you must be wondering..."Who is Gastropod?"

The answer is simple, yet confusing, yet not really, know what I mean? Gastropod is the name of a band that was formed in Henderson, TN, on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University. It's originator was a man by the name of Brennan Hughes. Well, I guess you would have to say he's still the originator, so anyway...

In 1996, Gastropod officially began the 4-track revolution. The song was "Visceral" and it was the first of many songs to be recorded onto Mr. Hughes' Tascam 4-track recorder. Over the next couple years in the Henderson/Jackson TN area, more songs were recorded, and Gastropod even performed some live acoustic shows at a local bookstore.

In August of 1998, the first Gastropod album was released. It was (and still is) called "Preserved Specimens." It boasted 34 tracks and was a retrospective of many of the songs Gastropod had done up to that point. Two members (Jason McDougal and Jeremy O'Clair) appeared on the two live rockers. Jeremy appeared also on the next album, and Jason later re-joined Brennan for some sessions in 2003.

1998 saw the release of the second album, "Cat Urine Glows Under the Black Light." It did not feature as many songs, but these were more complex, more involved, and less whimsical. Two songs ("Tempest" and "Deaths of Angels") were featured on "Preserved Specimens" and then re-recorded for this new album. "Deaths of Angels" also underwent another redo when Mr. Hughes joined the pseudo-techno-rockers, The Magneto Men. But that's another story altogether.

1999 saw the first CD release by Gastropod, "Hasslehoff." It had some songs taken from the "Cat Urine. . ." album, but this time they were on CD.

Also in 1999 came the album "Dinosaur Land." The most popular song on the disc was the classic, "Hunter's Moon." At one point in time, there was a website that had a track-by-track breakdown of the entire album, but that site disappeared many months ago.

Since then, Gastropod has undergone membership changes, and has not released an official full-length album, but has done recording, and sample cds were handed out to those in the know....

There were more than four other people who were, at one point in time, members of Gastropod in one form or another. As they left Freed-Hardeman University, they pretty much drifted away from the band. No one was ever really kicked out, it's just that they dissapated out of the band's core. One of those members has gone on to great things. They are all still arguing over which one it is, though.

Gastropod is currently planning an acoustic show for January 2004 featuring Brennan Hughes, Jason McDougal, and Kevin White.
