Brief Introduction
Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, the erstwhile Delhi Institute of Technology, was established in 1983 to meet the growing demands of manpower in the emerging areas of engineering and technology. It is an autonomous body affiliated to the University of Delhi and is fully funded by the Delhi Government. Within a short span of 17 years, NSIT has carved a name for itself for excellence in education, research and technology transfer in Engineering and Applied Sciences.
Today, NSIT ranks as one of the premier engineering institutions of the country. India Today has ranked NSIT and DCE (Both colleges of University of Delhi) as the second best engineering institutes, next only to the Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, amongst the highest-ranking institutions other than IIT’s.
NSIT focuses on imparting knowledge in the fields of engineering and technology to the technocrats and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Presently, the Institute offers a number of Undergraduate, Graduate and Post-Graduate Programs. Admission to BS programs in Computer Science(CS), Electronics and Communications(ECE), Instrumentation and Control(ICE) and Manufacturing Processes and Automation(MPA) is based on All India based competitive examination held by the Institute in areas of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. More than 50,000 students contest for about 400 available seats in undergraduate studies. The final selection is based on performance in the exam and 12th Grade GPA. Admission to Graduate Program is regulated through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Institute’s academic programs focus on the industrial needs of the modern economies. R & D is an integral part of ongoing activities at the Institute. Various well-equipped laboratories and libraries in the academic departments cater to the academic requirements of the students. The students are given an optimal mix of analytical and practical knowledge, enriched by industrially oriented training and project work. The Institute regularly organizes short-term courses, seminars, workshops and panel discussions to continue the learning process beyond degrees and curriculum. The graduates are thus motivated to serve the industries and R&D organizations all over the world.
The Institute has a reputed, well-qualified and dedicated faculty and supporting technical staff consisting of 200 full time and 50 part time employees. Student enrolment stands at more than 350 for undergraduate and more than 80 for graduate programs. The Institute faculty and students interact with a number of professional bodies both at national and international levels. The Institute has 5 student chapters of world-renowned professional bodies, such as Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE). These chapters of NSIT organize an annual National Level technical festival DITECH, that attracts participants from more than 100 engineering colleges all over India.
The Institute’s student community, besides exhibiting high academic performance, possesses an exemplary record in sports and in inter-college tournaments. The cultural society of the Institute organizes various cultural activities round the year. The Institute’s alumni are mostly occupying positions of great responsibility and distinction in Industry, Defense Services, Government Organizations, Educational and Research Institutions in India and Abroad.
The Institute continues to play a vital role in advancing technology in the emerging global village.
