The admissions to First Year Engineering
are centralized all over the state of Maharashtra and are controlled by
the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Mumbai. The detailed rules
and regulations are published every year in the brochure for admission
which is available at the time of admission during the month of June. The
brochure is also available on the DTE website (http://www.dte.org).
There are about 132 engineering colleges all over Maharashtra.
Candidates are admitted to the college
on the basis of their merit to 'Merit Seats'. 'Merit Seat' means a seat
for which fee is charged as prescribed by a Government College.
Qualifying
Examination and Eligibility:
The candidate should have passed
the Higher Secondary Certificate (Std XII) examination of the Maharashtra
State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, or its equivalent
examination and in English, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and secured
not less than 50 % marks (150 out of 300) in the subject of Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics taken together at the same sitting (45 % marks i.e. 135
out of 300 in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken
together at the same sitting for backward class candidates only from Maharashtra
State)
OR
The candidate should have passed
the Indian School Certificate (Std XII) examination or any other equivalent
Higher Secondary (Std XII) examination of a Council or Board outside Maharashtra
State, with and in English , Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and secured
not less than 50% marks (150 out of 300) in the subject of Physics, Chemistry
and Mathematics taken together at the same sitting (45 % marks i.e. 135
out of 300 in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken
together at the same sitting for backward class candidates only from Maharashtra
State)
Note:
The term 'same sitting' used here shall mean that the candidate should
have passed, in all the three subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
simultaneously and NOT compartmentally.
Other Eligibility
Criteria:
a) SSC and HSC from State: The
candidate must have passed both SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations
from recognized schools located Maharashtra State for being eligible for
admission to 'Merit Seat' unless specifically provided in the rules of
the admission brochure by DTE. In such a case a domicile certificate is
not necessary.
b) Sons and daughters of persons
domiciled in the Maharashtra State shall be eligible for admission, even
if they have passed SSC and / or HSC or equivalent examinations from
outside the Maharashtra State subject to conditions prescribed by DTE.
c) Central Government Servants:
Sons and daughters of Central Government servants of GOI undertaking
who have been transferred to Maharashtra State shall be eligible for admission,
even if they have passed SSC and / or the qualifying examination from a
recognized institution located outside Maharashtra State. The candidate
must attach a certificate from the Head of the office where candidate's
father/mother is working after transfer to Maharashtra State. The
certificate should contain full name of employee, designation, transfer
order number and date of joining and present status of posting.
d) Maharashtra State Servants
on Deputation: Sons
and daughters of Maharashtra State Government servants or Maharashtra State
Government Undertaking servants transferred from other states to Maharashtra
or returned from deputation are eligible for admission, even if they have
passed SSC and / or the qualifying examination from a recognized institution
located outside Maharashtra State. In such cases, the candidate shall be
deemed to be eligible to apply to the University area where the father/mother
of the applicant is transferred to Maharashtra state. The candidate must
attach a certificate from the Head of the office where candidate's
father/mother is working after transfer to Maharashtra State. The
certificate should contain full name of employee, designation, transfer
order number and date of joining and present status of posting.
Reservation
of Seats:
Backward class candidates: Seats
are reserved for backward class candidates from Maharashtra State in
all the Government, University Managed and Non Government -Aided colleges,
in 'Merit Seat' category, as per the percentages given below, of
the sanctioned intake. The seats so reserved shall be exclusive of the
candidates who secure admission on open merit.

N.B.
The caste certificate produced by the candidate claiming reservation shall
have a clear mention of the category of reservation and the caste of the
candidate.
Defence
Service Personnel: Five
per cent seats of the total sanctioned intake subject to a maximum of five
seats in each Government, University depts., Non- Government Aided and
un-aided institutions are reserved for children of defence service
personnel and ex-defence service personnel, including those permanently
disabled or killed in action. The seats so reserved shall be exclusive
of the number of candidates who secure admission on their merit.
Physically
Handicapped candidates:
a)
Three per cent seats of total sanctioned intake capacity of Government
, University managed and Non Government Aided colleges are reserved for
physically handicapped candidates.
There are four rounds of admission:
1)Round 1-State Level Merit Quota(30 %)
2)Round 2-University Area Merit Quota(70 %)
3)Round 3-Round for vacant seats
4)Round 4-Payment seats remaining vacant at the end of Round 3 will be
offered to eligible candidates from states other than Maharashtra on their
inter se merit.

The admission
brochure provides detailed information about available seats both course
wise and college wise. The computerized admission procedure provides choice
codes that have been assigned to each course in a college. All detailed
