The MCA course is conducted under the aegis of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.  The course was introduced in this  institution from the academic year 1992-1993 with an intake capacity of 30 students. MCA is a 3-year, full-time course divided into 6 semesters.
a
Objectives of the Course:
The course is designed to furnish the student with the prerequisites  necessary to work in the software industry at different capacities like Programmer, System -Analyst, System-designer, System Manager in any areas of  computer applications. The course instinctively equips the students with the aptitude, necessary for success in this field. Unlike most computer courses in existence, the MCA course emphasizes on concepts rather than any specific tool  for coding/development.
a
Course Contours:
The MCA course is a blend of three sciences viz. Mathematics, Computer Science and Management Science. The emphasis in four semesters is on building a strong foundation in mathematics, data structures and programming techniques. The later semesters go on to make the student proficient in RDBMS, OOPS, GUI, Systems Programming, networking etc. They are thus, well-versed in the areas that form the core group of professionals in the present industry. The course devotes a large amount of time to practical whereby the student can apply the concepts learned in the classroom. The heavy assignments, periodic projects and seminars give an insight into the practical aspects of the subjects taught in the classroom. The 6th semester is where the students get industry exposure as they are required to do a project during that semester in a  company.
