St. George's Champions. St. George's won the second consecutive promotion as they secured a place in the First Division next season with a 4-0 win over Zejtun Corinthians. Last season, they won the promotion play-offs from Division 3 to Division 2.

Our club St.George's will this year be celebrating its 110th year since its foundation. Although we considered this year as a transition period, whilst building a new young team and at the same time p tting our house in order administratively and financially, we have succeded in reaching the final of the Trophy which will be played in Mid May. We also succeded in winning the under 18's and under 16's league. So any kind of support will be mostly apprec ated. REGARDS

This is a book about the origin of soccer Malta. While St.George's FC are the main protagonists, many other clubs are mentioned. When the Maltese saw sailors and soldiers playing soccer they said if they can play this game we could play it to.With loads of old and new photos. More than 100 years of soccer in Malta. St. George's of Cospicua

St. George's are the pioneers of Maltese football.They were founded in the year 1890. In 1885 there were teams from Cospicua such as Cospciua St.Andrew's, Sta.Margherita, and St. George's. In1890 they amalgamated and chosen the name of St.George's, Which was selected by the team captain of that time,Vincenti.St. George's were also the first Maltese football team to play abroad. On Sunday 12th April 1914 they played their first game in Tunis against Racing club and won by 6 goals to 3. On the next day they played against a selected side from Tunis and won by the big score of 8-1.
In 1917 St.George's won the local, highest level football league and the knock out competition.
Today after 109 years St. George's are in the second division. They have had some glorious' days and some disappointments. We wish them luck for the future.

THE LEGEND OF THE GREAT ST.GEORGE'S F.C

A GROUP OF YOUNGSTERS WHERE WATCHING THE ENGLISH SOLDIERS PLAYING AT THE VERDALA BARRICKS, AN OFFICER GAVE THEM A BALL. THAT WAS THE BEGINING OF FOOTBALL IN MALTA.THEY FORMED THE FIRST EVER TEAM AND NAMED IT SANTA MARGHERITA. OTHER GROUPS WERE FORMED ONE WAS CALLED ST. ANDREWS THE OTHER ST. GEORGE'S. SOON AFTER, IN 1890 THEY AMALGAMATED AND PICK THE NAME ST. GEORGE'S. THEY BECAME THE FIRST EVER TEAM TO RAPRESENT A LOCAL IN MALTA. LATER ANOTHER TEAM WAS FORMED IN FLORIANA. WHILE PLAYING FOR A CHALLENGE CUP IN MARSA ST.GEORGE'S FC. VS FLORIANA FC. THE LATTER CHOOSE TO QUIT THE GAME WHEN THEY WERE ON THE LOOSING SIDE (3 - 1) WITH 15 MINUTES TO GO. THE SAINTS OF COSPICUA WENT FROM ONE TRUMPH TO ANOTHER. THE REPUTATION FLEW OVERSEAS TO THE ENGLISH BARRACKS AND NAVAL PORTS. CHALLENGES WERE MADE AND ECCEPTED. THE BATTLESHIP H.M.S."DUNCAN"WITH A BIG AND POWERFUL SOCCER REPUTATION IN LATTER 1910'S WENT ON TO CHALLENGE THE CIVILIONS CHAMPIONS (ST. GEORGE'S). IN THE GROUND AT RICASOLI THE SAINTS CAME OUT AS EASY WINNERS BY 5 GOALS TO NIL. THE SAILORS COMPLAINT THAT THEIR BEST PLAYERS WERE NOT ABLE TO PLAY. THERE WERE RUMOURS OF A REPLAY. WHICH LATER WAS CONFERMED. THERE WERE TO BE A REPLAY FOR A SILVER CUP. THE SAILORS WERE MAKING SPECIAL TRAINING FOR THE GAME.ON THE DAY BOTH TEAMS CAME OUT TO A GREAT WELCOME. THEY PLAYED AT KORDIN. THE GAME WAS TOUGH AND HARD, IN THE LAST 5 DRAMATIC MINUTES FROM A CLEVER PASS BY CONSIGLIO, TAGLIAFERRO WITH HIS ARM IN A SLING FOR A DISLOCATED SHOLDER SMASHED THE WINNER INTO THE NET. FOR A FINAL RESULT OF ST.GEORGE'S 1 , DUNCAN 0. HE BECAME THE HERO OF THE DAY AND MANY MORE YEARS AFTER. TODAY MORE THEN 100 YEARS ST.GEORGE'S ARE STILL PARTISIPATING IN FOOTBALL. YOU CAN'T MENTION ST.GEORGE'S WITHOUT MENTIONING JOESPH M DELCEPPO (PEPPI). THE BELOVED PEPPI WASN'T SIMPLY A ST. GEORGE'S PLAYER HE WAS, THE TEAM CAPTAIN, COACH AND A TECHNICAL ADVISOR FOR MORE THAN 44 YEARS.IT IS GOOD TO MENTION THAT THE WORD 'FAIR PLAY' WAS INTRODUCED BY OUR PIONEERS. WE HOPE THAT OUR YOUNGSTERS WILL PUT OUR BELOVED TEAM WHERE IT BELONGS.
