Usher

Before Mass (5pm)

• Arrive at church at 5pm
• Ask the choir if they will be using the yellow hymnals
  • If yes, take out the yellow hymals and place them on the two tables to the left and right of the center aisle, and
  • distribute yellow hymnals to parishoners who have arrived prior to 5pm and did not pick one up because the hymnals had not been set out yet.
• Get the collection baskets (the ones with the handles) and place them in the last pew, one near each aisle
• Get the baskets for the presentation of the gifts (the ones without handles) and place them in the last pew, near the table with the hosts and wine
• Double-check the bulletin to see if there is a second collection
• Find 3 other ushers to do the collection
• Find 3 people to bring up the gifts (these can be some of the same people who do the collection, if necessary)

Prayer of the Faithful/Petitions (Lord, hear our prayer...)
Ushers and the three people bringing up the gifts leave their seats and meet at the back of the church during the Prayer of the Faithful. The head usher will direct each usher to an aisle; a collection basket is located in the last pew.

Announcements
Ushers walk to the front of the church immediately following the announcements. At the first row of pews, the ushers genuflect in unison toward the tabernacle, then turn around and begin the collection.

If there is a second collection, ushers repeat the above process immediately after completing the first collection, before the presentation of the gifts. The two collections must be placed in separate baskets. The basket with the first collection should be brought up with the gifts. The basket with the second collection should be brought up a side aisle by one of the ushers after the presentation of the gifts. It should be placed on a chair at the side of the sanctuary. Ask a member of the LM team for help if you are unsure of this procedure.

Presentation of the Gifts
Those bringing up the gifts do so immediately after they receive the collection from the ushers. The person carrying the collection should be in front, the two others carrying the paten of hosts and flagon of wine should follow behind. The person with the collection should present her/his gift to the priest first, followed by the other two. After the group gives the gifts to the priest, the priest bows, and those bringing up the gifts bow back, in unison. Then they return to their seats.

After Mass
The ushers check the pews for yellow hymnals, and return them to the tables at the back of the Church.
