So what if Bart and Kon always hang out... everyone knows that in Young Justice Cassie and Kon like each other. Cissie and Bart kinda do as well. And everyone knows that Kon'll never get over Tana, just as people know that Bart and Carol just click perfectly, but...

If you're willing to dig a bit deeper... you'll find that Bart and Kon usually always hang out together. They tend to appear in the same panels and talk about each other in their own titles, and then there are bits of dialogue or pictures that just seem to scream slash and that's the subtext we're talking about.

And because we know you don't believe us... witness as follows, in reverse chronological order:

~Series note: Cancelled! a.k.a. 'We're tottally reaching.'~

Gen X says... it's an absolute stretch, but it sorta counts. Both Bart and Kon can relate to the existential, beyond two dimensional angst of *gasp* having their title series cancelled. Truly tragic. They can bond through comisseration. ... Hey I warned you it was reaching.


~Young Justice, no. 41: "Mishmosh"~

Secret: Robin walked out on us last week!
Cassie: Yeah, we know.
Kon: Bart did too.
Secret: Right. Him too.
and...
Anita: What is?
Secret: That... that Robin's gone.
Kon: And Bart.

Gen X says... sure, any one could have added "And Bart." and Kon probably only did it because Secret is being the worst fangirl but still... Kon's thinking of the li'l Speedster.

Reccea says... obsessing more like. He can't get his mind off the boy.


~Superboy, no. 92: "Watch Me Pull a Rabbit Out of My Heart!"~

Kon: This had better be my pal Impulse out on some sort of spastic coma jog... 'cause anyone pretending to be the li'l zipper is gonna wind up in that grave a long lonnnnnnnng time. I'm serious like a case of underfungus here.
and...
Cherub: And I'm late!
Tana: I'm late!
Bart: For a very important-- dirt nap! Get it?
Tana: Get it?
Cherub: Get it?
Kon: Y-yeah... all you guys-- hurt or worse because of me. It's that, or some Freudian thing that means I secretly think of Impulse as a chick--

Gen X says... he said it. Not me.

Reccea says... and he was going to finish with "that I'm in love with." Can't you just tell?


~Superboy, no. 91: "War Letters"~

Kon: My way got Impulse killed. No matter how small a piece of him that "scout" may have been... it was my bud dying right in front of me.

Gen X says... and there's a really meepy picture of Kon cradling Bart's scout.

Reccea says... it's a comic book. In comics angst is always intertwined with love.


~Superboy, no. 90: "The One Where Superboy Makes an Important Choice"~

Amanda Spence: Why do you think sweet li'l Cherub was so appealing to you? It wasn't the Impulse gene.

Gen X says... or was it?

Reccea says... nothing. She's just grinning. Evilly.


~Young Justice, no 36: "Kissing on Apokolips"~

Gen X says... no quotes this time. However, Kon and Bart both don't seem to like the idea of Robin or Batman keeping files on all their weeknesses... hence splitting up the YJ team into two groups.

Reccea says... and notice which team Bart is on. Why yes, it was Kon's team.


~Young Justice, no. 35: "War Torn"~

Traya: Thank you! Thank you, Superboy!
Kon: You're.. you're welcome, Traya.
Bart: Thaaank you, Superboy! You're my herrrro, Superboy! I wuuuuv you Superboy!
Kon: Awwww, shut up.

Gen X says... Bart is clearly mocking SB, but it doesn't change the fact that he still said it.

Reccea says... Freudian slip.


~Young Justice, no. 31: "Quiet!!!!!"~

Gen X says... this issue is just adorable. It's soley about Bart and Kon just hanging out or not after all they're in two different places, doing two different things, but they just somehow manage to come near full circle. Very cool issue with almost no dialogue.

Reccea says... they were just... so cute.


~Young Justice, no. 28: "Hitting For The Cycle"~

Bart: Uh, Kon... You're thanking Lobo for a compliment. Doesn't that... y'know... creep you out?
Kon: Incredibly but I sure ain't going to cop to it.

Gen X says... see they're talking and confiding. Okay, yeah it's week, but it's an admission and therefore trust. I'll shut up now.

Reccea says... plus Bart just reads Kon like a book. I'm just saying...


~Superboy, no. 83: "How Kon-El Got His Groove Back"~

Bart: As God is my witness, I will not rest until you start acting yourself Kon! I'm going to scour the globe for a cure!

Reccea says... Such dedication. Such love.

~Young Justice, no. 22: "...The Best Intentions."~

Kon: Bart! What. Are. You. Doing?!?
Bart: We were only trying to help. We felt sorry for you 'cause you lost your powers so we were trying to get ya some new ones...

Reccea says... this was the most adorable issue. All the lengths that Bart goes to just to distract Kon from his problems. It shows how deeply Bart cares for Kon.
