BACH FLOWERS
What are Bach Flower Remedies?
Bach Flower Remedies are a natural preparation using extractions from non-poisonous plants, which grow naturally. They were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930's. Bach Flower Remedies are taken internally and are safe for all ages, including the very young.
A simple and natural method of establishing equilibrium and harmony through the personality. There are a total of 38 Remedies in all, and 1 composite mix, which is called Rescue Remedy. Within these 38 remedies you will find a treatment for all the states of the mind e.g. fear, uncertainty, indecision etc.
It has been said that because Bach Flower Remedies have been around since the early 1900’s they are not able to cope with the modern day problems, but take fear for example, the Fear of Diphtheria in the 1930’s is no different to the Fear of AIDS/Cancer of today.
The FEAR of what, does not matter, it is the actual emotion which is being treated that does not change. Because they can be taken individually or in combination, the remedies have an infinite number of permutations, and cover every negative state of mind known to man.
Who was Dr. Edward Bach?
Dr Edward Bach (pronounced Batch) was a Physician and Homoeopath, who spent his life searching for the most natural methods of healing. He was born in Mosely, just outside Birmingham, England. He qualified at the University College Hospital in London from where he went on to have a busy practice in London. He also worked as a Pathologist and Bacteriologist at the London Homoeopathic Hospital.
There he was struck by the fact that Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homoeopathy, had recognized the importance of personality some 150 years before. He also believed that treating the physical symptoms was not enough. He found that the mind was affecting the physical body and that it was the person himself, which needed to be treated, to enable the physical body to look after itself more efficiently.
Dr Bach’s Philosophy was at once simple and profound, based on the innate perfection and spiritual nature of human beings. The key word for Dr Bach was Simplicity, he wanted people to be able to help themselves and prevent situations worsening.
How do they work?
Bach Flower Remedies work on the state of the mind, the emotional level, and not the physical state. The mind is a very powerful part of the human body and has a great influence on our physical body. Bach Flower Remedies are also effective on animals and plants.
Our feelings and emotions can have a great effect on our health. Bach Flower Remedies work on the individual as a whole, not on the physical state; therefore not all physical problems would require the same remedy. As we go through life, we are moulded and influenced by the people in our lives – parents, teachers, friends and colleagues etc. and the circumstances which we encounter.
But, underneath all that, we are all unique with our own individual personality, which will basically remain unaltered although it may well become a little smothered by the various layers that have accumulated over time. The Bach Flower Remedies remove these layers, enabling the true personality to emerge.
