WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on the Law of Similars. It treats disease by the use of natural medically active substances that, at weak or infinitesimal doses, when administered in health in a more crude dose, produce symptoms similar to those for the relief of which they are given. For example: If a person was suffering from a gagging cough after a cold, or a women was experiencing morning sickness with incessant nausea that is not relieved by vomiting, then Ipecacuhana, administered in a minute dose, especially prepared by a homeopathic pharmacy in accordance with FDA approved guidelines, can allay the "similar" suffering.
Samuel Hahnemann described this principle by using a Latin phrase: Similia Similibus Curentur, which translates: "Let likes cure likes." It is a principle that has been known for centuries. Hahnemann developed the principle into a system of medicine called homeopathy, and it has been used successfully for the last 180 years.
WHAT ARE THE MEDICINES?
The substances may be made from plants such as aconite, dandelion, plantain; from minerals such as iron phosphate, arsenic oxide, sodium chloride; from animals such as the venom of a number of poisonous snakes, or the ink of the cuttlefish; or even from chemical drugs such as penicillin or streptomycin. These substances are diluted carefully until little of the original remains. A plant substance, for example, is mixed in alcohol to obtain a tincture. One drop of the tincture is mixed with 99 drops of alcohol (to achieve a ratio of 1:100) and the mixture in strongly shaken. This shaking process is known as succussion. The final bottle is labeled as "IC". One drop of this IC is then mixed with 100 drops of alcohol and the process is repeated to make a 2C. By the time the 3C is reached, the dilution is 1 part per 1 million! Small globules made from sugar are then saturated with the liquid dilution. These globules constitute the homeopathic medicine. Although such infinitesimal quantities are considered by some to be no more than placebos, the clinical experience of homeopathy shows that the infinitesimal dose is effective. It works upon unconscious people and infants, and it even works on animals.
It is important to remember, however, that a medicine is homeopathic only if it is taken based upon the similar nature of the medicine to the illness. A medicine labeled as "homeopathic" will work only if it is homeopathic to the symptoms presented.

HOW HOMEOPATHY WORKS
Homeopathy works by stimulating the body's immune processes in a very cleaver way. Many diseases take their hold slowly, by degrees -- partly through degeneration, partly through a weakening of defenses. The body may gradually adapt to its lesser functioning and more or less accept the disease as a part of itself. However, the body instantly recognizes the homeopathic remedy as something different from itself -- something coming from outside that needs to be defended against. It then quickly musters its immune defenses to ward off the invader. If the energy imprint of the remedy matches exactly the energy profile of the disease, the body will automatically rid itself of the disease as it gets rid of the intruder. In this way immune responses can be catapulted into action, even against diseases which are not necessarily caused by immune problems in the first place.
The use of antibiotics and harsh pharmaceuticals is decreasing. Drugs alleviate and suppress symptoms but do nothing to stimulate or help the body's natural healing processes. On the contrary, the more of these drugs one uses, the weaker the body becomes. The causative factors may be driven more deeply into the body; and apparent relief from symptoms may come only because the body can no longer fight. Health consumers are becoming more and more dissatisfied with this approach. They are turning, in increasing numbers, to homeopathic medicines -- one which stimulate the body's vital forces to restore health and overcome the causes of illness -- safely and effectively.
