~ A GUIDE TO MARIO CHARACTERS ~
Section I-O
NAME: Iggy Koopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing
INFO:
Iggy is one of the seven Koopa Kids, Bowser's children. He is Lemmy's twin, although he bears a resemblance to Larry too. He was the boss of Yoshi's Island in SMW and Giant Land in SMB3. He has been called 'demented' and likes to invent things. He wears glasses.
NAME: Jagger
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
Jagger is a Koopa Troopa who ran away when Smithy took over. Instead of serving Smithy or Bowser, he fled to Monstro Town to train in Jinx's dojo. He is still loyal to Bowser but continues to train under Jinx.

NAME: Jinx
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
Jinx is a tiny little guy, but he packs a wallop. He is master of the dojo in Monstro Town, and trains Jagger. He is a great fighter, but after Mario beats him, he gives up leadership of the dojo and trains in the ways of Mario...^^

NAME: Jonathan Jones
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
Jonathan Jones is a shark, and a pirate captain to boot. He claims all that is under the sea as his own. So naturally when a Star Piece falls into the Sunken Ship, he won't give it up without a fight. This boss insists on fighting Mario one-on-one, and it's a tough battle. After Mario beats him, he gives up the Star Piece, but comes to defend Mario when Yaridovich steals the same Star Piece in Seaside Town. Johnny Jones is a cool guy!

NAME: Jumpman
GAME(S):
Donkey Kong
INFO:
Jumpman was the original name for Mario...so back when he was a carpenter, saving Pauline from DK, his name was Jumpman, not Mario. Interesting, huh?

NAME: Junior Troopa
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Junior Troopa is the very definition of 'recurring boss'. Mario encounters him in various places all throughout the adventure. He fights you at LEAST 6 times. He is a Koopa barely hatched from his egg (he still wears the egg) and he is bent on beating Mario for some reason. He is -always- inventing new battle tactics, all of which Mario defeats. His shining moment is when he randomly shows up and takes out all four Koopa Bros. in one hit. ^_^
NAME: Kalmar
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
One of the seven Star Spirits, the last in fact. He is held captive in the Crystal Palace.

NAME: Kamek Koopa
GAME(S):
Yoshi's Island
INFO:
Kamek was the head Magikoopa back when Bowser was just an infant. He also doubled as baby Bowser's caretaker, and he wasn't very appreciated either. Nevertheless, it's hard to feel sorry for him after he magically enhanced all the bosses in the game.

NAME: Kammy Koopa
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Kammy is the head Magikoopa working for Bowser all through PM. She always agrees with him and is loyal. Though she doesn't magically enhance bosses like her predecessor Kamek, she's still annoying. She gives Bowser advice and tries to stop Mario. Of course, she must not be too strong, because Twink can kick her butt pretty easily. And he's a Star Kid. ^_^

NAME: Kent C. Koopa
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
This huge Koopa Troopa is an optional boss that guards the road to Koopa Village in the later part of the game. He charges you 100 coins to pass, or you can fight him. If you don't fight him, it's a very spendy trip through, but he's a hard boss to beat.

NAME: King Bob-omb
GAME(S):
Super Mario 64
INFO:
This guy is the king of all Bob-ombs, and he guards the Star atop the mountain in Bob-omb Battlefield. He's the first boss Mario fights.

NAME: King Boo
GAME(S):
Luigi's Mansion
INFO:
Final boss of LM, and king of the Boos, King Boo trapped Mario in a painting in the mansion, forcing Luigi to go after him. And the King is no ordinary Boo--he has a Bowser disguise authentic enough to scare even Luigi!

NAME:
King Calimari
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
A giant squid boss, blocking the way to Johnny Jones in the Sunken Ship. In fact, Calimari is what sunk the ship in the first place.

NAME:
King Nimbus
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
As you can tell by his name, he's the king of Nimbus Land. He's Mallow's father, and he seems fairly starstruck by all the celebrities (i.e., Bowser, Mario...) appearing in his kingdom all of a sudden.

NAME:
Kings of the Mushroom World
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3
INFO:
This collective entry is for all seven Kings of the Mushroom World, who, by the way, have atrocious luck. Not only did all their Magic Wands get stolen by Bowser's Koopa Kids, but the brats turned around and used the wands on the kings, turning them all into animals. And for that, you are forced to listen to the line "Oh, it's terrible! The King has been transformed! Please find the magic wand so we can change him back!" over and over and over and over...^^

NAME:
Klevar
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Another one of the Seven Star Spirits. It's been a while, so I don't remember which one or where he is, but from his name, I'm guessing he's supposed to be smart. If he was just a bit smarter, however, he would've escaped Bowser's minions before they captured him. Then again, maybe not.

NAME:
Knife Guy
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
A clown in Booster's Tower, counterpart to Grate Guy. He's a boss, fought after the Mario-doll-finding thing. He, of course, wields knives. Later he plays you minigames in the tower.

NAME:
Koopa Bros.
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
A foursome of overconfident Koopa Troopas, dressed up looking rather like the Ninja Turtles (and acting like them, too). Red, of course, is the leader, and Black, Yellow and Green follow his orders. They have a special combo move that amazes Bowser, but when you fight them as a boss in the aptly-titled Koopa Bros. Fortress, they aren't too tough to take out. They guard the first Star Spirit.

NAME:
Koopa Koot
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Elder of Koopa Village, this old guy is pretty funny, although he's a Scrooge if there ever was one. He constantly sends Mario out to do favors and run errands for him. Sometimes his rewards are cheap (1 coin), and sometimes they're actually worthwhile. Doing all the favors gets you into the secret game-room place in Toad Town. Long live Koopa Koot! ^_^

NAME:
Koopa Paratroopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, SMRPG, Paper Mario
INFO:
Unlike the groundling Koopa Troops, these guys take to the skies. Other than a pair of fluttering wings on their shells (which can be dislodged with a well-aimed kick ^_^) these enemies are exactly the same as regular Koopas. Famous Paratroops include Sergeant Flutter and Parakarry.

NAME:
Koopa Troopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, SMRPG, Paper Mario, SMKart
INFO:
Commonly seen enemies (and, in Paper Mario, friends) in the Mushroom Kingdom. Ground turtles, that come in many varieties, shell colors, etc. Once stomped on once, they fly out of their shells, which can then be used as a weapon on whatever is around. There are too many famous Koopa Troopas to mention. ^^

NAME:
Kooper
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Speaking of famous Koopa Troopas, it's Kooper! Kooper has dreamed of going on adventures all his life, growing up living next to famous archaeologist Professor Kolorado. After Mario helps him recover his shell, Kooper returns the favor by joining the party. Using his shell-based attacks, he's quite useful when taking on a group of enemies.
NAME: Lakitu
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64
INFO:
Lakitu has always been around in Bowser's array of baddies. First, the only thing this glasses-wearing shelled-creature did was sit on a cloud and throw Spiny Eggs down, creating a real walking hazard for Mario and Luigi. But then it progressed to more tricky tactics---fishing poles baited with goodies, etc. Eventually some Lakitu became good, and worked the 'camera angles' in Mario 64. They also fished anyone out of trouble in the Mario Kart series. Famous Lakitu include...well, Lakilester. ^^

NAME: Lakilester
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Lakilester only wanted to be 'cool'. He thought, that by helping Huff N. Puff hide the sun in Flower Fields and further Bowser's plans, as well as change his name to Spike, he would be cool. Well, when he got beaten up by Mario, he discovered he was wrong. The Lakitu reformed and joined the party. He also has a girlfriend named Lakilulu.

NAME: Lakilulu
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Lakilester's girlfriend, also a Lakitu. She really doesn't do much except offer her moral support to Lakilester and remind him that he doesn't need to be bad to be 'cool'. Awwww...^^

NAME: Larry Koopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing
INFO:
Another one of Bowser's children, resembling Iggy somewhat. Larry Koopa was the first and the last, so to speak---boss of Grass Land in SMB3 and Valley of Bowser in SMW. He might be the youngest, but you really can't tell...

NAME: Lava Pirahna
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
This is a very annoying boss, guardian of a Star Spirit in, appropriately enough, the volcano on Lavalava Island. Professor Kolorado unsuccessfully tries to take him on, and there's even a moment, if I remember right, where he charges valiantly into battle against the Lava Pirahna, only to get fried. Part of what makes this boss so annoying is its ability to revive itself.

NAME: Lemmy Koopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing
INFO:
Iggy's twin brother, another of Bowser's kids. He might not be the youngest, but he is the smallest, by a little bit. He was boss of Ice Land in SMB3 and the Vanilla Dome in SMW.

NAME: Ludwig Von Koopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing
INFO:
Ludwig, another of the Koopa Kids, certainly was an oddball. With that wild hair and one big tooth, he was easy to tell apart from other look-alikes like Iggy, Lemmy and Larry. Anyway, he was the boss of Pipe Land in SMB3 and Twin Bridges in SMW.

NAME: Luigi
GAME(S):
Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 1, 2, 3, Luigi's Mansion, Mario is Missing,Yoshi's Island
INFO:
The most famous underdog of Nintendo history! Luigi, Mario's oft-overlooked brother, is a hero in every right that Mario is, it's just that his brother leaves him behind so much, he doesn't have as much of a chance to prove himself. He was (and this should be a CRIME, people) cruelly left out of not only Super Mario 64, but those Mario gems, Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario. Well, he was in Paper Mario, and reading his diary gave some insight into his left-behind-feelings, but he didn't play an active role. The only time Luigi is fully allowed to take center stage, unfortunately, is when Mario is out of the picture (i.e., Mario is Missing and Luigi's Mansion) and then, it's only to save Mario. Luigi sticks it out nonetheless. He's also supposedly involved in some way with Princess Daisy.
NAME: Mack the Knife
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
While Mario and Mallow are off recovering his Frog Coin from Croco, Mack and his gang of Shysters take over the Mushroom Kingdom. They bounce around, wreaking havoc and having a large 'party'. Until Mario and Mallow come in and kick Mack, the large knife, outta there. He's the boss of the first missing Star Piece.

NAME: Magikoopa
GAME(S):
Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario
INFO:
An elite brigade of Koopas, clad in blue robes and caps, brandishing magic wands, who work pretty much exclusively for Bowser. Wizards of the Koopa Kingdom, that have been loyal to King Bowser since he was an infant. They're a rare sight, not some common enemy, but can be glimpsed in Lemmy Koopa's Castle in SMW, and various other places--they are bosses in SMRPG and PM. Famous Magikoopas include the one runnin' the show in YI, Kamek, and Bowser's loyal wizardess, Kammy, from Paper Mario.

NAME: Mallow, Prince
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
Mallow is the cutest li'l fluffball you ever did see. Prince of Nimbus Land, he doesn't know of his true lineage and was raised in Tadpole Pond by Frogfucious. He honestly thinks he's a tadpole. But Mallow, who has the ability to control the weather with his emotions (ie, he cries, everyone gets wet ^^) joins Mario in the quest to restore the Star Road, and eventually he finds his parents, too.

NAME: Mamar
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
The second Star Spirit liberated from Bowser's clutches by Mario and company. She's a matronly, 'maternal' star, though how you can tell is anyone's guess. She was held captive by Tutankoopa, in Dry Dry Ruins.

NAME: Marching Milde
GAME(S):
Yoshi's Island
INFO:
Milde is the explodable, poppable, yet-still-happy-go-lucky halfway boss for World 4 of Yoshi's Island. There are also many smaller, regular-enemy versions cheerfully plodding about the island.

NAME: Mario
GAME(S):
Do you really need to ask? ^_^
INFO:
Really, what would the Mushroom World do without Mario around? Probably hire Luigi for far-too-cheap wages, but with Mario there, people scarcely remember poor Luigi. This carpenter-turned-plumber is always combatting evils such as Bowser, Wart, and Smithy in the Mushroom Kingdom, always saving women like Pauline, Daisy and Peach, and always looked upon as THE Mario. THE hero. He and Luigi used to parade around the Mushroom Kingdom, saving it from Bowser, but lately Mario's been going it alone, with new allies such as Mallow, Geno, Goombario and more. He's only been tripped up twice, really (Mario is Missing and Luigi's Mansion) and his ever-faithful brother is always there to save his neck. One thing is for sure, without Mario...the Mushroom Kingdom would probably collapse on itself in three, four minutes. Five, tops. ^_^

NAME: Mega Mole
GAME(S):
Super Mario World
INFO:
Mega Moles, dwelling only underground on Chocolate Island, are gigantic, steroid-pumped versions of regular Monty Moles. They can't really be killed, either---but one can always ride on their heads. Just be careful.

NAME: Megasmilax
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
This boss would admittedly be less annoying (it's a giant Pirahna Plant, by the by) if that dratted Shy Away didn't keep watering it, making it bigger! Mario fights this beastie in Bean Valley, on the way to Nimbus Land.

NAME: Merle
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
The son of Merlon, and father of Merlee, Merluvlee, and Merlow. He lives in Starborn Valley in the Shiver Region, looking after the Star Kids there. He's a wizard just like the rest of his similarly-named family.

NAME: Merlee
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Merlee, the twin sister of Merluvlee, has opened -her- branch of the family's magic business in Dry Dry Outpost. She speaks in rhymes, and will cast a spell on Mario that randomly has beneficial effects in battle.

NAME: Merlon
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Grandfather of Merlee, Merluvlee, and Merlow, you get the picture, right? This old fella works right out of Toad Town, in his house with the spinning roof. He offers Mario some advice in the beginning, but after that you must pay if you need hints. He has a habit of telling LOOOONG tales that no one understands. I particularly enjoyed it when he zapped the disguises off the Koopa Bros. for you. ^_^

NAME: Merlow
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Merlow lives with his sister Merluvlee on Shooting Star Summit. He'll trade rare Badges for Star Pieces.

NAME: Merluvlee
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
As one could tell from her name, everyone finds this fortune teller lovely and gorgeous. She lives on Shooting Star Summit with her brother Merlow. She'll tell Mario, for a fee of course, the locations of Star Pieces, Badges, or Super Blocks. Koopa Koot even asks for her autograph!

NAME: Millennium Star
GAME(S):
Mario Party 3
INFO:
The Millennium Star, for reasons that escape rational thinking, decided to randomly crash on Mario one day. In response, for reasons that also escape rational thinking, Mario retaliated by having a large Party. Gotta love the reasoning behind some of these things, though. ^_^

NAME: Misstar
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
A 'beautiful' Star Spirit, held captive by, if I'm not mistaken, Lava Pirahna. With a little teamwork (or intereference, as it may be) from Kolorado, Mario frees her, and in return, she saves them from the violently erupting volcano, which was quite nice of her. ^^

NAME: Mite Mole
GAME(S):
Super Mario RPG
INFO:
Mite, a baby mole from Moleville, basically just hangs around in his big sister Dyna's backpack while they both get into trouble.

NAME: Monty Mole
GAME(S):
Super Mario World, Paper Mario
INFO:
Monty Moles are mischievious little enemies that like to pop out of the ground and attack. They're seen all around Dinosaur Land, and there are a few on Mt. Rugged in PM.

NAME: Morton Koopa, Jr.
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is Missing
INFO:
One of Bowser's seven kids, and Roy's twin. He's...well, burly and bald. He always seems to guard World 2 for some reason, in both SMW and SMB3. (Desert Land in SMB3 and Donut Plains in SMW.)

NAME: Mouser
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 2
INFO:
Mouser is the boss of the first world in Sub-Con, and another later on if I'm not mistaken. He's a giant mouse with shades! He chucks bombs at you, but with a taste of his own medicine, he's outta there quick.

NAME: Moustafa
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Descendant of King Mousta, founder of Dry Dry Outpost, Moustafa is the current leader of the desert town. He is revered by all and looked upon with a sense of mystery, since he rarely appears in public. In public, in fact, he goes by 'Sheek'. His favorite food is a lemon, when given one he will give out secret information.

NAME: Muskular
GAME(S):
Paper Mario
INFO:
Muskular, the fourth Star Spirit to be rescued, was held captive in Shy Guy's Toybox. Again, from his name you'd expect him to be strong or something, but he's a star like all the others.
NAME: Naval Pirahna
GAME(S):
Yoshi's Island
INFO:
Naval Pirahna, the boss of the world-three jungle in Yoshi's Island, is one of many large, annoying Pirahna Plant bosses in the Mario series. This one is actually not too difficult, and in a unique twist, you can only hit him by bouncing eggs off the wall at a certain angle, where they will skip across the water and hit the pirahna's weak point---his navel, of course. (Don't ask me how a plant ended up with a navel...)

NAME: Ninji
GAME(S):
Super Mario Bros. 2, Paper Mario
INFO:
Flighty little enemies, not often seen. They are kind of star-shaped, but black, and are evidently supposed to resemble ninja, somewhat. They're enemies in Sub-Con, of SMB2, but in Paper Mario, like so many former foes in that game, they've reformed and help watch the Star Kids at Starborn Valley.

NAME: Nomadimouse
GAME(S):
Paper Mario (Yoshi's Island)
INFO:
Nomadimouse, is well, a nomadic mouse. He travels around the Dry Dry Desert, in Paper Mario. I put Yoshi's Island up there because the same type of mouse that Nomadimouse and Moustafa are, are annoying enemies in that game, running up, squeaking, stealing eggs. Their species just really doesn't have a collective name aside from 'mouse', so I added them here. ^^
*There aren't really any notable things that start with 'O', so while this section is "I-O", there aren't any O's to be found. Go tell Nintendo to make some! ^_~
