Chapter 3

******

Britney's POV...

"Brit?"

I opened my eyes and looked right into Christina's eyes, staring into mine hard. "Wake up." She said quietly, shifting her eyes away from mine uncomfortably.

"Why?"

"We're going to that party with Jorge and Lance. Are you coming or not?" She grabbed my hand and pulled me up off of the couch. I stood up, still leaning on her. Our eyes locked for a second. Our lips were just inches apart, and I wanted to lean forward and just kiss her. But I couldn't. She gulped and let go of my arm, then pulled her eyes away from me and walked towards Jorge and Lance, who were waiting for us at the door.

I followed her to the door, and looked at Jorge. He clutched Christina's hand and held it tightly, then smiled at us, motioning for us to follow him. We followed Christina and Jorge to the elevator and then to the car, and drove to the party.

Jorge parked the car and then got out and opened the passenger door where Christina was. He smiled at her and took her hand as she stepped out of the car, door slamming behind her.

Lance was staring at them, and then snapped out of his trance and looked at me. "You coming?"

I nodded, and got out of the car as Lance closed the door quietly behind me, and we walked to the party behind Christina and Jorge, when Justin jumped in front of us at the door. "Hey!" He grinned widely, exposing his teeth to us.

"Where's your date, Justin?" Lance asked him, scanning the area around Justin.

"Uh, I don't know. She disappeared. I think Joey stole her from me or something." He shrugged, then frowned at that thought.

Lance smirked, and walked over to talk to Chris, who was getting drunk with JC. Both of them laughing uncontrollably at something that probably wasn't funny at all, but was to them because of the excessive alcohol.

"Are you okay, Brit?" Justin asked me, his forehead wrinkling. "You seem sort of....I don't know. You're not your usual self, that's for sure."

"I'm fine. I'm tired, that's all."

Justin tilted his head, knowing I was lying. "Can I talk to you?"

I shrugged, and followed him outside. We sat down on the bench, and he looked at the sky for minutes before he said anything. "What's wrong?"

"I told you. Nothing." I snapped at him, as he turned his head and frowned at me.

"Brit, I can tell when something is wrong, okay? You can tell me anything. We've been friends forever, haven't we?" He sighed, and leaned back on his hands.

"You won't understand."

Justin rolled his eyes and grinned slightly, before staring at me. "What haven't I understood when you told me things? I'll understand. But I can't unless you tell me."

I sighed, closing my eyes tight before letting it out. "It's Christina."

"What about her? Are you two like fighting or something?" He asked me, confused. "I thought you two were close. You never fight."

"We're not fighting." I bluntly said and shot open my eyes, hoping to get him off my back. I couldn't tell him. I just couldn't.

"What's wrong then? I heard she's engaged to that dancer dude. That's great."

"No, it's not great. Justin, it's not great at all." I sighed, shivering at the thought of them being engaged.

"Why? Don't they love each other? Did she tell you she secretly hates Jorge or something?" He was getting suspicious now, firing questions at me like bullets.

"No, she never told me that. I wish that was true though." I grimaced, and bit on my lip hard.

"What?! Brit, why do you want that to be true? That's not good, I don't think?" Justin raised his eyebrow, and stared at me intensely, which made it harder for me to tell him the truth.

I sighed loudly, letting out all the air in my lungs, and shut my eyes tight. I lowered my voice to a whisper and sputtered out. "I love Christina."

I opened my eyes to see his eyes bulge out as he looked forward, a surprised expression on his face. He swallowed hard, completely shocked. "You want Christina?" He choked out, still unbelieving of what I had just said seconds ago.

"I love her." I sighed, looking over at him.

"Since when?" Justin blurted.

"Since forever, I guess. I realized it a few months ago though."

He sighed deeply, and looked back at me. "I'm sorry, Brit. I mean...that they're getting married."

"Don't be sorry. You can't do anything about it." I groaned, staring down at the ground.

"You can." Justin told me.

"How? There's nothing I can do. They love each other. I can't stop that. No one can stop that."

"Tell her how you feel. I mean, seriously, there's a reason behind your love for that girl. If you tell her that you love her like that, maybe you'll be surprised. Maybe she loves you exactly like that back." Justin suggested.

"There's no reason. And I'm not going to tell her. She'll hate me then. And I'd rather be only friends with her than not having her in my life at all."

Justin smirked, chuckling a bit before responding. "There is no way she will ever hate you. If she doesn't love you back, then she'll tell you that. I know her, and she won't hate you. It's worth a try, isn't it?" He leaned back on the bench, resting his head while looking up into thin air. "Besides, I don't think she loves Jorge as much as he loves her. I've seen the way she acted around him. And that's not love. Maybe there's someone else that she wants. Like...you."

The door beside the bench they were sitting on opened, and a blonde girl and Joey stepped out, laughing at something, as she grabbed his shirt roughly, almost ripping it off of his body.

"Kim." Justin shot Joey a look as he looked at the blonde girl. "That's my date!"

Kim and Joey turned and stared at Justin, who was glaring at Joey. "Um...we were just looking for you Justin." Joey swallowed hard, worried.

Justin turned back to me and whispered. "I've got to go now. But think about what I said, okay?"

"I don't know. She's a girl."

Justin sighed and simply replied, "That doesn't matter anymore." He got up off of the bench and glared at Joey and Kim.

"Um, okay. Got to go!" Joey gritted his teeth nervously, grabbed Kim's hand, and ran. Justin ran after them, obviously mad at both of them.
