France

After two weeks in England, I decided to go to France. I took the Eurostar train. I explored Paris, places outside of Paris but in the Paris area, and Normandy. Boy do I like Paris! I was truly impressed by the city of light and it's people. Yes...by it's people. For some reason, many people in the US say that Parisians are rude. I can only speak for myself when I say that this is false. Imagine, that on my first day in Paris I was lost, and many people came to my aid. I was badly lost since I took the wrong exit off the subway station. lol! Since we have no subways in Florida, I didn't have a clue. Anyway, one lady came to my rescue, helped me with the map, showed me where the hostel was, and gave me her name and number just in case I needed anything. And that was just the start...I met many other people who were very helpful. When you're bagpacking, I think the first few hours in another country are very important because you form an opinion about the place based on your limited exposure to it. So right from the start, I liked Paris.

I really enjoyed hostelling. I met so many people from different places, so much so that I was never alone even though I left the States by myself. Therefore, if you would like to go to Europe but your friends don't have the money at the same time (the classic reason for students), have no fear...GO ALONE! Most of the people in hostels will have the same mission as you do, so you can plan to go out together.

There are numerous hostels in Paris. For more information, please go to Hostelling International Paris.
