Here is the second doll in the Sailor Moon series. I used the same pattern - Simplicity # 7142. She was more difficult than Sailor Moon in a couple of ways. First, I had to get her face! And if you have seen any pictures with this character in it, you knew her hair was always hanging in her eyes. I couldn't clean up any computer image without completely destroying the picture in the first place. So out came the tracing paper. I took a picture that I wanted to emulate, traced it, scanned it, and printed it on iron-on paper. This is what I came up with:
Her hair was more difficult too. I ended up sewing more hair in than on the other doll because she needed more coverage. Sailor Moon's hair is always up, and I could get away with large patches of bald. Not so with Sailor Mercury.
By the way, these pictures are really of terrible quality. I got them developed at Wal-Mart (because they are the only store I have found that will one-hour photo advantix film) and the colors are just bad. These pictures really don't do this doll justice.
Another thing I did for this doll is make several outfits. I made her an everyday outfit and a pajamma set. Even though there is no picture, I also made her some lacy panties (hee hee). I wasn't even going to attempt a school uniform, although I did on the new doll I'm making, Rini. Here are the last of the pictures:
You can see that her hand has fingers, and she has elbows and knees. Those features aren't really evident when she has her costume on. Her tennis shoes are purchased at Wal-Mart - size three.
