8" F10 Meade Telescope LX10 |
|
Lx10 was the telescope I had owned for about 2 years. I decided to get this scope because its low cost and high transportability Meade say that the optics of the LX10 is just the same as the 8" LX200 scopes. I can't say if this is true. In mine LX10 it was pretty good with two mainly "problems". Fists the stars it was never pin points and second I had an significant mirror shift trying to focus the scope. The mirror shift is something common for this type of scope but in mine was more than the expected Mechanical the LX10 has some disadvantage they came from the fact that the scope is a light version of fork mount system , and the all scope has some flexures. It was sensitive in the winds and vibrations. The drive system keep track of stars and will be OK if you are doing observation , but you will have some problems in astrophotography , as the drive has a big periodic error and you can't take your eyes from the guide eyepiece during astrophotography. The wedge coming with telescope it has not any azimuth adjustment and the latitude adjustment it was not so effective to set the telescope for astrophotography. In this point I have to be clear the telescope need some modifications in order to set up the scope for star drift and astrophotography. If you plan to buy the standard tripod as I did have in your mind that it has fixed height legs and you have to search for leveled places in order to setup the scope and to make any observation or astrophotography . Also this tripod hasn't any spread bar and therefore is not so stable . I had to call up all my inventiveness to set up the scope properly .Finally I made modifications in tripod legs so to be adjustable and stable. I had a kind of problems in the setting circles accuracy wile I had to search for the most objects around in the setting circles position , but some times I was just on the object . Any way not a big problem. Finally I have to say that I enjoyed the transportability of this scope and also i have to encourage you if you just bought this scope and don't give up on first difficulty , you have to know that with a lot of effort you can do almost any other more expensive scope can do. In mine case all I had to do with this scope I done it pushed the scope at the edge of its capabilities.
