Well, I guess I have had a change of heart of sorts. I had a chance to attend a LAN party and see computer games the way they were meant to be played. A room the size of a small bedroom with eight computers networked together would catch anyone's eye. But to see the mighty Tribes 2 being played by several people at the same time cooperatively was simply amazing. Have I changed my mind completely? Definitely not. But the PC game Tribes 2 has definitely opened my eyes. |
Consoles |
Computers |
|
Cost | Price of system (everyone has a TV) | $$$, if you want the latest stuff |
Screen Size | As big as your TV | Puny |
Setup | Make connections, play! | Where do I begin? |
Reliability | Modern consoles seldom crash | Does this really require an explanation? Ask Bill Gates. |
Plug n' Play | Plug in controller, it works | Jump through hoops, make sure everything's compatible, and hope the drivers work |
Upgrades | Accessories, more games! | New graphics card, more RAM, faster processor, or whatever else to keep up with constant changes |
Graphics | TV resolution is as obsolete as 8 tracks, but the PS2 still pumps out unbelievable graphics! | High resolution monitors in glorious true color! |
Sound | Giant Cerwin Vegas and Dolby Digital, enough said | Inadequately sized computer speakers sound good, until you crank 'em up |
Networking | N/A | This is where the PC really shines. Tribes 2 is killer when played by more than one person on the same team. Incredible! |
Controls | Is there even any competition for the almighty Dual Shock 2? | Not from Logitech! |
Now that I have seen what computer games are capable of, the verdict is out on which medium is king. Hit my feedback page and tell me what you think. Tell me which other PC games are worth checking out. The Captain would appreciate this. |
