What I do in my free time.
(Weekends and suchlike.)
- SCA
-
The SCA is a re-creation organization dedicated to
preservation of pre-17th century peaceful & martial arts & sciences.
Currently they span more than 20 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania
organized into 19 administrative regions (Kingdoms) and more than 700 local groups.
I'm a member in The Barony of Thor's Mountain,
Kingdom of Meridies (Knoxville, TN).
- Chain Mail
-
This is not writing those e-mails that say, "Send this to 10 of ur best buds, or u'll b ded!!!!"
It's the weaving and interlocking of wire rings into elaborate chains. My gallery on
deviantArt has a section just for the chain work I do:
here. I don't have a photo up yet, but I made mine and my wife's wedding rings. (Mine's being
re-built because of excessive wear and mis-judging the capabilities of the weave...)
- DiscworldMUD
-
The DiscworldMUD is text-based MORPG based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, which are either
high fantasy with a sense of humor, or a sense of humor set in high fantasy. It's your choice.
Some of its best features are the density and richness of its environments, the creators' attention
to the finest details, including how things smell and taste, a system for those who eschew combat,
one of the (if not THE) largest room-sets, detailed quests, the sense of humor found in the books,
and its strong sense of community. It's very family oriented and draws from around the world.
- Orthodox Christian Fellowship @ UT
-
The Orthodox Christian Fellowship is a Christian organization for
college and high school students similar to the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Young Life, and FCA.
It's one of the agencies of S.C.O.B.A., the Standing Conference of
Canonical Orthodox Bishops in America. Our small but growing group at the University of Tennessee
is sponsored by our two area churches, St. Anne
Orthdox Church(OCA) in Oak Ridge, TN, and
St. George Greek Orthodox Church
(Greek Orthodox Archdiocese) in Knoxville, TN. We meet every
Thursday at 7:00 P.M. The John XXIII Catholic Student Center
graciously allows us to meet in their building.
