Service Unit Meeting Minutes

October 11, 2004

Open Positions -

Still openings for a co-Service unit manager to work with Barb before she "retires" at the end of the 2004-5 school year, and an event director.

Carmen Angel has agreed to be the new PR and training and awards person. Her e-mail is carmen.l.angel@boeing.com. Let her know if you have pictures or events that should be shared in our community.

Toy Fair -

Barb handed out flyers for this event, which will occur on Dec. 4th this year. Troops can make toys, health kits, etc for needy families for Christmas. There is also a patch design contest for next year's patch. Pre-registration is recommended - you get a table sign for your troop's contributions and avoid the lines! Remember - no food or Christmas items.

New Philanthropy Patch -

To help support the Happy Campers campaign to remodel/build our council's camp properties, a new patch is available to troops who learn about philanthropy, the value of the camping experience, and who make a contribution to the campaign, via cookie money or other money raising event. A troop contribution of $50 will earn each girl and leader a patch. $100 or more will also have their name/number on display at one of the camps and be in a drawing for a free attendance at their SU's encampment. The link for the brochure is http://www.girlscoutstotem.org/Volunteer/HappyCampersPhilanthropyPatch.htm

Super Troop Patches -

Now available for last year - check the troop box for yours.

Bronze Award Project -

Two girls from troop 920 are working on their bronze award, and are asking for donations of supplies to be used for pet emergency kits for seniors at Village Green. Items include towels, ice packs, latex gloves, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol wipes, gauze wrap, gauze pads, first aid tape, clean-up bags, splints and gallon-size ziplock bags. They hope to assemble 25 kits. Supplies will be collected thru Dec 15th, and kits assembled and delivered in January. Contact Alex or Sally Jackson at with questions/donations. Sally said there is also an on-going need for dog walkers for the seniors. Contact her if your troop/girls would be interested.

Event Organization -

If you or your troop are hosting a SU event, you will be responsible for collecting registrations and payments from attendees. The checks should be made out to Service Unit #037, and given the Karen Kilen for deposit. Please e-mail Karen for check requests before the event occurs. At the conclusion of the event, prepare a list of expenses and deposits and give to Karen for reimbursement and SU recordkeeping. Costs for the event should be covered by the event fees collected, for the most part.
